Suddenly, BF2 is a laggy POS. I'm not sure if it's BF2 being poorly coded, or my shitty hardware that suddenly can't run all low graphics without major stuttering. I've deleted the optimization cache, restarted my comp, but nothing works. I just reinstalled BF2.
try increasing the ram if youve got money it will help loading and stopp all the lagging
I'm having the SAME problem, and I have tried almost every "fix" out there. (BF2lag.com, Re-installing, Defragging, shutting off other applications, EVERYthing on low settings!)
Thing is, I didn't have this problem until just recently. I used to be able to run with everything on Medium with no stuttering whatsoever. Now, BF2 is a large pile of crap!
Can ANYONE help or am I just doomed??

I had the same problem before 2 weeks and for over 1 month. I try everything and every advice from every forum i ask for help.

2 gigs RAM
AMD 3000+ @ 2.22 GHz
GForce 6800GT 256Mb 421Mhz/1.14GHz
17" CRT Monitor
BF2 graphics settings set to high/No AA
Couldn't figure it out, tried drivers, tweaking, etc. In the end I changed my monitor settings (in game) from 1280@60Mhz down to 1024@85Mhz. FPS jumped straight up, lag disappeared. Can't really explain it, but that was the result.

I think its the patch. Every new patch Dice releases it degrades performance instead of improving it. I use to be able to run everything on medium. Now it's all on low but playable. Hopefully this will improve over time. *sigh* I should try that winsock thing hopefully it works for me. Good luck guys.

I have a 2.8Ghz P4, built in sound, BFG Nvidia 6200 OC 256MB DDR RAM, and 512 Mb of RAM. I play on 64 player maps all the time, and the only time I have lag is when I first spawn when I just enter the round. Each time I spawn after that, I do not have lag. Here are my BF2 settings, (I am trying to do this by memory since I am at work).
Graphics:
Screen Res: 1028 X 768 either 60Hz or 75 Hz refreash.
Everything else on low, view distance 100%.
Sound:
High
EAX is not enabled.
VoIP is not enabled (I use Ventrillo instead)
When I did have VoIP enabled I did have lag, along with a ping rate of 300+, without it enabled I have a ping rate anywhere between 30 - 50, usally around 45. I have had my ping rate jump to 180+ but at the time, I was playing with a lot of people from Europe (the server is located in TX in the USA.) I did not see a lot of lag when that occured.

U need a high end system, and still it wont work what kinda crap is that
i have a super-set, and after patch its laggy and un-playable more then ever before...
why bye multi$ stuff if it even wont run the stinkin crap after every patch game!!!#$%^&*
have all add-ons and feel milked out..
i shure will think 5 times before bying any more upgrades,or games from EA.
beeing a unpayed stupid beta tester for months now...bastard in the eyes of EA and Dice..
Also Nvidia is not makin it EAsier on holders of other brands of V-cards,like Ati or whatever...
so i wish
to bring a lawfull suitable case towards them in "trying to hold and maintain a monopoly on certain drivers and releases.." ;P
