No. Netbooks are only useful a secondary or tertiary system. Get her some second hand desktop with a real screen and keyboard

She stays here at the weekends so her room isn't huge. She already has stuff in her room that can't be shifted. Why would she need a desktop if she uses a my dad's laptop the rest of the time and manages fine with just that?max wrote:

Yeah the screen and keyboard size, not to talk about performance of netbook really isn't good for primary use.

Guys, it's for a kid. It'll do nice. I would've loved to have one of those when I was 10.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Perfectly fine, but I wouldn't buy her an Acer.
Personally I would go with an Asus if you can find one at a similar price point, but I think a netbook is a good idea.

Two of my mates have that exact Acer, and really, it's not that bad.
