good shit.

May I suggest suspending your HDDs instead of buying and anti vibration kit? Works a lot better, and it's pretty much free

Was thinking of that... maybe, the kit is also a passive cooler, and since there wont be a fan blowing over the HDD, I was hoping that might help. its this one:

EDIT... If I end up with the EK full coverage block for my vid card, I may have to cut the cooler out of the budget.

Alright... lets get started, why waste time:
First order of business, the case. Man, this thing is light, I thought the box might be empty when I got it at the post office, wont be buying a steel case like my TT Armor again. Love the brushed aluminum.
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g294/twigmar/1.jpg

First things first... Lets get rid of that pesky HDD rack:
Do you see where I'm going with this build:
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g294/twigmar/11.jpg

Still a bit tight... Wont need that fan anyway, three intake fans on the rad, with only 1 exhaust, plus the PSU exhaust, the front panel fan is overkill:
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g294/twigmar/12.jpg

Think I need more room still, off with the 3.5 bay... shit gotta leave some to hold the face plate on, will cut that later tonight when I cut the mobo up:

Case looks hotttttt. This is going to be a good build. Make sure you get it nice and neat!

well, suspending a HDD does increase the heat of the drive, but it isn't normally a problem.

I'd try for a couple of weeks and monitor the temps.. If it gets too high, you can buy that cooler thing..

I mean, with two exhausts and water cooling, I doubt it'll get even close to the max temp.

edit- also, ditch the fan grill. All it does is add extra noise.

TY.. yeah lots of time to get it neat, the guy who orders the WC stuff to my local store said yesterday that the gpu blocks could take 2-2.5 weeks to come in as EK seems to have customs problems a lot. Thats a lot of time for cable management. I almost want to get it running on air first, but I gotta be a bit patient.

I was thinking that myself, plus its ugly. If I were to leave it in, it would be painted or just one of the many black wire grills I have around.
By the way, the use of screws instead of rivets on this case puts a big smile on my face, Lian li is def worth the price, and at $97 CAD, the price is cheap.

97 CAD?!?!

FML, it's like $170 CAD over here

Ouch, that hurts, Everything about the case so far is quality, my only complaint is that the mobo tray is riveted to the backplate and those top curved pieces.
quality PSU backplate, its the little things that count:
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g294/twigmar/2.jpg

The case is nekkid:
EDIT #2: I love how they cut the fan hole, so you get to use a grill and not have some crazy hex pattern blocking flow.
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g294/twigmar/21.jpg

First problem... Res is hidden, didnt want that. Solution? Cut obv. but what to cut?
https://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g294/twigmar/23.jpg

EDIT: Case is a bit reflective... gonna have to get the tripod out and more light without flash.

I don't really get what you mean with the res tbh... Hidden from what? Where are you wanting to mount it, what parts of it do you want to be visible?

The res will be mounted to the roof, since it is a DD fillport res, it has to be, Its the exact same length as those panels that run across the top. I kinda wanted a visible cylindrical res, as they are slick looking.

But, if I cut that (the cross beam), I cause problems, because it supports the PSU as well, and acts to hide cables. I think I'll have to take the lesser of 2 evils an not have a visible res. Ah well, I only want a small window anyways, and this aids in that....

Time for sushi! wooohoooo.

Got the majority of the cuts I want marked out... will be going to the shop to cut it a bit later, still have to map out my intakes for the floor:

Motherboard and power supply holes cut, Still have to get a template for radiator, cut the 3.5" bay, mounting holes for the pump, hole for res, and side panel window.
Measure->mark->punch->pilot holes->hole saw->mark->jigsaw->file->fine grind stone->polishing wheel. A lot goes into simple holes, but they are so smooth now I probably wouldn't need to put some siding on them.

its an average sized mid-tower, not big at all, keeping it neat will be a bit of a challenge, but thats where modular power supplies are sweet.

To respond to your comment in the tech open thread:
I think you should go with a black over a white, just to match the outside. That said it might not be a bad idea to paint the inside of the side panel and top panel gloss white/silver to help reflect your lighting. One thing I noticed with my case is that since getting the painting done, the two CCFLs - which lit up the whole case before - only now provide small highlights.

+1 for current progress. I can't wait to see this finished.

awww... just found out the wifey is taking my good camera to New Zealand for the next 2 weeks.. I gotta try to find the other shitty cam to take pics. Won't be making any more progress until Monday anyway. Moving and doing a build are not conductive to each other.

Maybe she can take pics of Ty. Nic, the build is lookin pretty sweet. if you have to use another camera, np - just use a tripod/mount/someting that will reduce motion.

on the upside, you can blare the music while the wife's out of town! ;-)

Well with moving to my new house, and cleaning up and fixing the old apartement, my days have been: clean, fix, work, clean, sleep, clean, fix, work, fix, sleep.... so no new work done yet. On a good note, the EK 5850 Full coverage water blocks have come in to the store so I ordered one with some compression fittings to go with it. I want to order a X-top for my pump to... I might do this, and set aside cable sleeving for a month or so.

Has the C2Duo E8500 enough power for the 295GTX? or should I go for another from the 200 GTX Series?

it's more dependent on your power supply. with that card, and that cpu, you should be able to play about any of today's games.

Cost, probably - HT is expensive. That, and power efficiency.
