The commander should have more options for arty, the amount, speed and density of your artillery strike should be all adjustable, but then effects the reload time for the next arty strike. So say if you want to kill off a sniper, you set it for a low amount of shots (3 rounds or so) and all in very close proxsimity (speed of the shot wouldnt really matter as snipers dont move much) and your reload time after that shot would be very low. If you wanted to take out a squad at your main flag immediently though, you might want a high load(15 shots) with a medium density and you would want that shot right now. The reaload time would be very very long but your strike would have proballly saved your flag.

Sorry about the spelling

edit: the arty making holes in the ground would be cool, but would probally require a new engine(wait for the next battlefield.
i think it would be even better if there was a limit to how many shells you get, but you could fire them freely as you needed them
or made it do a kind of burst firing, whats the point of sending an entire artillery barrage on 1 guy?

deadlyboy:

by density he means how spread out the rounds are when landing (think shotgun pellet spread)

and i would love to see some mortars in this game, wouldnt you guys?

Thanks for the info on the density, WarmPudgy.

"Density" is not something easily controlled with artillery. Being an indirect fire weapon system, pinpoint accuracy is not impossible, just really damned hard. The calculations are done by the FDC and the rounds land in a theoretical "box". Adjustments are made from there by Foward Observers. A lot of things can alter the flight of the round, like wind and rain(not by a lot, but just a little bit of a nudge can affect trajectory overall) and birds and shit.

Basically what I'm saying is: the rounds land in a generalized area, and the explosion and shrapnel take care of the rest.

Semper.

i want different munitions, like DeadboyUSMC said.

i got to watch an artillery test fire in Camp Pendleton, and they were using some kind of high arc airbusting shell, i think, it was fucking awesome. tore an old 2 1/2 column to pieces in 2 rounds

if you ever find yourself among 5-6 of your teammates capping a flag, run away really fast cause arty is coming your way.  if your great rooftop sniping position has attracted 2-3 of your squad mates, run away cause arty is coming.  if your flag is being pounded from multiple sides by armor and gunfire then try to run away (or take cover) cause arty is coming.

its pretty easy to predict where arty will come: look at your mini map and see where all the little blue and green dots are concentrated
'

but its so annoying if the enemy commander is a bit noobish and when i run away i get as only one arty on my head.

It was probably DPICM that you saw stryyker. Those are detonated in air by a timed fuse and rain bomblets down on the enemy. Sexy stuff.

Artilley is a required part of the game to eliminate troop concentration and allowing a team to advance.
I have played with a lot of my friends (I actually convinced entire dorm to play in a rented server) without artillery strike since quite a few guys just hated it. However, it just became camping game since no one is willing to advance since they have dug in deep and will be providing overwhelming firepower.

My suggestion is that Artillery strike should not give death to the troops if they die from it.
It is not like Artillery strike gives anyone a kill. (Plz I know you can get ground defense badge and studd like that as a commander with arti so do not flame me about that crap)
The only problem that I find of doing this is that some people will just ignore the arti strike and just rush in expecting to surprise the enemy which is quite a gay thing to do. Also armors would just ignore arti strike, ya not as if it so easy to get killed by arti strike in a tank.
Maybe in order to solve THIS problem, arti strike's fire power can be increased so that tanks would get more damage if they stay in the arti zone. Let the tanks know that they will DIE if they stay in the artillery strike zone.
