Sorry for the undescriptive topic title but w/e

My problem started about an hour ago. I was playing BF2 when all of a sudden my PC locked up, I had experienced smaller lockups earlier, but the game would go on after a small pause. But for this one I had to reset my PC. When I booted it back up, the whole screen was filled with vertical lines, but things were still showing (bios etc.) The XP-loading bar appeared, and loaded, but when my desktop should've appeared my screen went black and my monitor went to rest. The PC was still loading though, I know this because the lights on my keyboard turned on and the HDD was still working.

I'm typing this from safe mode, as I don't experiece any of the previous now...

PS: Pics can be added if needed..

I've had it turned it off for over an hour first, took it out & blew all the dust out etc. The stripes were visible on the first boot

Probably a video card problem. Give it a good clean and try again
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Not yet, I'll try that out right now.
Could this be the issue? You gotta know it even shows me the stripes when it shows my boot screen (before all the bios stuff) which is like "Intel Pentium D" and whatnot

That didn't fix it

EDIT: I guess it got fixed after a second reboot after the installation

Thanks so much, all of you smile Karmas coming your way

2nd EDIT: It happened again! This time while playing Guild Wars New lockup, and back to the vertical stripes and failing boot

I guess I can safely say my GPU is dying now. Fuck
I'm already outta money

Swap in a GPU card that you know works?

I don't have any 'decent' GPU cards around that could run any of these games that are causing the problem

Just put the other GPU card in there and see if the problem continues when you boot up like you said before. If not, then it's clearly your GPU dying and nothing else?

Any chance the current card is under warranty???

Nah, it's too old.

You're right about the first thing though, I'll try it out tomorrow morning

EDIT: Ok I think I can declare my GPU officially dead now.. It's really struggling with anything, I guess it's drawing her last breaths
I've decided to buy a new GPU (and some RAM too). I was wondering.. the ATI 4770... Looks good, no? Will it be able to handle BF2 on high quality if the rest of my specs are okay?
