4xKoss M75, 2x Yamaha YST-M101, amp is an Aurex SA-5000.

At home, so much more good stuff. I'll post pics when I go back, sometime in december.

As for the post scriptum--most definitely.

@Freezer--the brand's rep is what attracted me to them in the first place; because many people say they sound good. Of course, I don't care for all those specs. What I care about is what they sound like to me. Which is why I'd have to audit them before buying, hence the "want".

To be honest, specs aren't important--but as a general rule, the more expensive the product, the better/more powerful the sound (with exceptions of course, Bose being one)

You pay more to get better specs.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Nah. I pay more to get better sound. The specs are a measure of that sound, not its genesis.

If you know how to read them, and you have enough of them, you can find out exactly how a system sounds just by looking at numbers. Music isn't anything more than a bunch of harmonics playing together, there's nothing magical about it.

I'll disagree with you on that one. While it is a bunch of harmonics, true, I wouldn't say that numbers will tell you exactly how it will sound. That's what's great about audio--I don't need to read the brochure to decide whether I like a system or not. I just need to listen. Regardless of what the numbers tell me, I will always choose a system by sound, and sound alone. Which is why my neighbours hate me.

But of course, this is a debate that will never be concluded.

You can tell exactly how a system sounds by numbers, as long as you have enough of them. That's a fact. How you choose your system and on what basis is up to you, but audio reproduction is, contrary to musical production, very objective indeed.

Yes people usually just look at the specs an order speakers online without listening to them first. Makes you wonder why they make special acoustic isolating listening rooms...

I got my Russ Andrews PSU upgrade for my DacMagic. Can't evaluate it yet as the burn-in period has just begun but it seems that bass is more punchy now. Anyway here a pic of the Kimber Cable that is attached to the PSU along with some other cables (one could make a couple of nice silver bracelets out of it :p)

Btw, is the DAC resting on a sushi rolling mat?

I like that Japanese mat, a lot, nothing gets rolled in it, not even... nothing! (purchased in Ikea!)

But those numbers tell you nothing of the room you are going to put the speakers in..

Hey Techies! So black friday is coming up and since i'm moving away in half a year, i'm looking at getting a laptop w/ a wireless printer??
the question is guys, what laptop should I get? anything less then $700 please, it won't be for gaming uses, okay maybe a bit, but mostly just surfing the web and doing school work and stuff.
Any US sites or stores would work for me

I bought a Toshiba Satellite L510 a few months ago. 14" screen so it's fairly light for transporting to and from school. 4GB of RAM and a 320GB HD. I love it

Paid $750 for it here but it's probably $100 (or more) cheaper in the US.

Then you've never bought Dell refurbished before.  They are practically new, for 30-50% of the price of new.  I've got two Dell refurbs right now.  One laptop running W7 Ultimate, playing Dragon Age at 1920x1080 LED Full detail with 2xAA.  Seriously, a $1K+ laptop for $550.

Edit.  3 Dell refurbs.  2 laptops, 1 desktop.

No I haven't but that doesn't mean I'm not open to it. Anything pre-owned loses value.. it's just a fact. It matters to some people whether you agree with it or not.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with seeing what kind of deals BF brings. Link me to $550 refurb Dell laptop you are talking about please.

I mean I don't have to buy it right away, i'm just asking what laptops would be good and if a good deal strikes up during BF, i'll take that chance, I also have a 05-06 dell inspirion, its really heavy, low battery

$589.  Add a 15-20% coupon that comes around every month or so, and you have your sub $500 gaming laptop.  Only 720p, but close enough.  As refurbs are unique stock, you've got to be a hunter to find the really good deals.  Plenty of bot scripters around.

Outside of the GPU that's not that special at all. .. unless you get the coupon whenever it comes out. Then it's an ok deal. Laptop prices have dropped like a rock over the last year. I'd be surprised if BF deals don't beat that easily. Some Box store prices are already competitive with that. With BF only a couple of weeks away he'd be retarded not to at least see what's out there after Thanksgiving. The refurbs aren't going anywhere.

Personally I've never been a fan of gaming on a lappy anyways. Playing on a 15.6 screen would be torture for me.

OK, your turn.  Find me a comparable with LED display and 256MB GPU.  Like I said, coupons always come out.  Just timing.  Non-LED and onboard graphics can be had for $200-300'ish.

I also have a few gaming desktops.  One soon for my BFG295GTX.  But I can't bring that to the kitchen or at the airport, park, etc.

I said except for the GPU.
This is NOT BF prices.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+-+L … Id=9548661

That would handle most games easily, resolution certainly wouldn't be a problem, it is a bigger screen, it has a faster processor, HDMI out, more storage. If you can find what I posted for $200-300 show me. I'd definitely think about getting one.

Two weeks isn't that long to wait. I expect a significant price drop that would make new machines comparable to your refurbished ones.

Yes, tech prices always drop as new technology shows up.  But dedicated GPU has always been premium priced for lappies.  That IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD won't play most  games easily at your 17.3" resolution at medium or higher settings.  Going from 2.1 to 2.2 is insignificant.  Storage isn't an issue since it's easy to upgrade.  What you can't change is the graphics card or the screen.  You might be able to change the CPU.

What you noted isn't bad, really, since gaming isn't a concern.  But trust me, gut feeling, if you are even remotely considering current gen PC gaming, you'll need more than that 4500MHD.

Panzer, where are you?
