Where to go in the US this January?

My mom is getting a deal on some plane tickets so she wants to go on a trip with me. Figure about one week in any of the 50 states.

We've half decided we want to see some national parks. My mother doesn't like the cold too much, but she can deal with average NYC winter temps (30-40F)(-1-5C).

I immediately thought of the southwest. Utah, New Mexico or the like.

I like to ski/snowboard, explore the wilderness, party. She likes to relax.

Ideas?

ps: she mentioned Alaska but I figured it would be fucking brick cold in January.

who cares about 'snobs', i just know hanging out with redforman would be a big downer with that attitude. You don't have to stay at a resort, you can stay at a hotel or motel. lol or even camp. If wealthy people really bother you that much that you'd avoid a vacation... wtf? fun is what you make it
