I suppose that's partly true, but I'm not gonna give it that much credit. I think XBL and PSN were born out of necessity and it was just time that they came around. It's not like Halo 2 suddenly came up with this idea, which then every other game started to implement and Microsoft and Sony looked at and decided to take it and run with it.

There were plenty of online multiplayer games before then. Maybe Halo 2 was just one of the first few games that took the next step, but everyone else had planned to do that anyway.
No, SOCOM really started the online console gaming wave... but Halo 2 propelled it to what it is today.

Halo 1 didn't do shit in terms of general gaming. For console FPS's? It's arguable, sure.
