Since the "Book Club" got closed just after a mod posted his final argument, I suggest we continue the discussion here: a topic dedicated to the debate about what defines literature, a topic where Miley Cyrus arguments CAN be valid.

Now to get started, may I point out that the following arguments,..

I read the first Dan Brown book.

His writing style was descriptive. That's about it. The story was dull and yes, mostly stolen.

Nope. Literature - the art of writing.

Asking for a definition of what is good literature is open for debate.

Who says a porn mag isn't literature? The describing word/place-holder 'literature' does not only apply to classical or well-written texts only.

I was on the train to uni yesterday and I guy a couple of seats ahead of me was flicking through a titty magazine.

I would not class that guy as a reader of "fine" literature.

What defines 'literature'?
Opinion I guess, nothing more.

If Dickens hadn't been born some other dreary wordy bore would have been siezed on as the finest example of English literature.

And comparing reading Dan Brown and a porn mag cover to cover is not exactly the same, not even close
