So, how do I do it?  I want to do better in school and sports, but I don't feel any motivation and I'm just lazy.  I don't do my homework, I don't practice and workout outside of practice, etc.  Are there any solutions?

an hero?

But srs, it's all in your mind. Motivate yourself. Start by setting your alarm half an hour earlier. In that half hour, try and accomplish something. You can start your day earlier, and you'll have a half hour at night or half hour through the day or whatever, but try and use it. You could go for a run, or do some weights.

Stop doing them then.

Set yourself tasks to achieve and you'll find they disappear.

And hire someone to spank you.

Well who's choice is that?

Your the only one who controls what you do, the only way to do something is just to do it. Stop being helpless and go do what you need to get done. Right now. Leave your computer.

Try positive visualization: see what you want to be.

Also, can you, um, fix the signature there chief???

Telling yourself to tough it out, setting harder goals, and telling yourself you're not doing well enough is precisely how you fail.

The you of tomorrow, the you of weeks from now and even the you of years from now are nothing more than your current self, plus whatever you are willing to do on a daily basis. In other words, NEVER procrastinate because you don't want to do it now. If you don't want to do it now you won't want to do it just as much at any point in the future.

Set simpler goals and try to achieve those simpler goals. Vague goals do not motivate you, and they make perfectly achievable tasks seem much more daunting than they should be. Setting concrete goals that you can easily tell if you've achieved them or not help a lot more. Working out? Write down an exact goal. One you know you can achieve. For instance, being able to lift X more weight 3 months from now. Or having gained X amount of muscle mass 3 months from now.

Well whatever, I'm not going to write you a self-help book. I'm hardly qualified to do so. Just heed my advice that making things harder for yourself and telling yourself that you should simply tough it out are NOT ways to overcome a lack of motivation and will only make things worse.

Alright, thanks guys.

One more question:

I need to become more confident, not socially, but more in terms of sports.  For example, I was the best goalkeeper in my club, but I was cut anyway because I didn't have the confidence to perform at the same level in games that I did in practice.  My coach told me he'd love for me to be back next season, but he said I have to improve my confidence.

Find a way to play (semi-)serious matches outside of practice, so you can get used to the experience.

Expeience is the best solution for both of your questions. The more you learn to get out of your comfort zone the easier it is to do. It takes courage and effort though. Only you can can make the decision.

I'm only lazy when it comes to doing uni work in advance. Which I might add is a really bad habit.

I don't really see how experience is a good way to become less lazy. Motivation ultimately comes down to wanting something. Shit, if doing something holds no reward for you whatsoever then there's no point in doing it. But things like working out, studying, and practicing sports do have their rewards for putting effort into them, so you emphasize those rewards/benefits and make getting there seem easier.

Posting on BF2S about how much you want something is a good sign you don't want it very much.

This. And when you come up with some goals, get out some paper and write them down. Stick it to your door or wherever you'll see it. It's all good to say you'll do things, but this makes them more "real"..

Hey, I've got a crazy idea that might just work. Instead of sitting at a computer making a thread about how can you be less lazy, why don't you go do some work or play sport?

Well if you enjoy being lazy then why quit at it, you only live once.

Being lazy is my favourite hobby.
