Hi,

I just installed 5.1 speakers with an Audigy SE sound card, it sounds great with excellent quality. Too bad I cant get it working well with BF2. The problem is in the Audio settings I enable EAX *works fine* but when I want to play with hardware sound *good quality from the Audigy SE not software* I can play the game fine with good fps the only problem is the sound lags, for example I click for a medic and its like "I nee-eed--a--me--di--c---he--rrr--eee" same with shooting its like "ba-n-g-ba-n-g" it stutters like mad. Is my audio card just to crap?

AHHHHHH I know what you mean!
I was just messing with this because I have had a 5.1 system for a while and haven't really gotten any use out of it.
Only Hardware settings allow you to use surround(and it uses your sound card's good sound quality), but the voices are choppy.
Software has clear voices, but low quality sound and only sub and two front speakers.

I just have a Soundblaster Live!24-bit... for some reason it wont allow me to use the "Creative X-fi" setting though.
BTW, you and I have the same specs except a few things...
I have 2 gigs(played with 1 gig for a while though... I played on medium/high settings)
80gb hdd
and the sound card differs a little.

EDIT2: oops.. I have a athlon 64 3200+... my bad. I read your sig wrong..

For some reason if you try to play with one mode with a soundblaster card, it does that.  Ended up returning the card.  Best advice is to not use the mode that does that.

Pretty sure that card is not supported. If you check the list of supported cards, it is pretty damn pathetic given that it does not support any but the newest of SB cards. If I recall correctly, I was amazed when I read that not even the almost new Audigy is supported, but the newest ones are ($$$). I'm not dropping 200 bones CAN on a sound card anytime soon though. Not to hear enemy boat spotted in full 3d at any rate

From the help (amongst a huge list of cards)

- The following sound cards do not support the Hardware Audio
  Renderer option:

  Creative Labs SB 16 PCI
Creative Labs SB Audigy 2 NX
Creative Labs SB Audigy LS - (5.1)        <-Weeee
  Creative Labs SB Extigy
  Creative Labs SB Live 24-bit
  Creative Labs SB Live
  Creative Labs SB Live PLATINUM
  Creative Labs SB Live Value
  Creative Labs SB Live X-GAMER
Creative Labs SB Live X-GAMER 5.1
  Creative Labs SB MP3+ USB
  Creative Labs SB PCI 128
  Creative Labs SB PCI 512
  Creative Labs SB PCI 64

I was pissed about this myself.

Hi
I tried the Audigy 2 SE with Bf2 and found that although it says on the box it works with Bf2 what it doesn't say is that it will only work in software mode. I tried all sorts of things to get it to work but in the end i gave up and took it back to the shop. I swapped mine in for the Audigy 4 which does support hardware sound but is about £20 dearer depending on where you buy it.

Have you updated your drivers?  I saw something some where about the Open Al driver or something  I can't remember where.  I have an Audigy2 Platinum and use hardware rendering on high quality without any issues..

ok here is the thread with the openAl patch

http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id=10023

this talks about using beta drivers, I have a single file that I downloaded from someplace that updates the openAL driver I thought it was in that thread, I'll keep looking to see if I can't locate the place where I read about this issue..

Here is the link to the creative download...

Here is a link to Creatives forum where the EAX fix is explained.

http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs … 045#M28016

In order to support Hardware Audio Rendering the card must include an onboard Sound Processor ( or DSP )which unfortunately the Audigy 2 SE does not have.

Bit long sorry.

To use the X-Fi you need to buy the really expensive Creative X-Fi soundcard.  My friend has that card and it sounds amazing! He has another sound setting above High, I believe it was "Very High" or "Ultra High".  I have an Audigy 2 Value and have my hardware settings on Hardware - High with EAX enabled.  I had sound lag issues before when I only had 1 GB of RAM, but when I added another GB it was fine.

Recently been having the same problem with an audigy se.  sent a few emails to cl tech support and these are the solutions:

Please set disable all hardware accelaration: no, that removes my 5.1 sound
Please download latest drivers: no, you do not support this card and the only driver in existance that works for me is on the cd (theres supposely a way to extract the driver from other drivers but it doesnt work for me)
Please enable CMSS:?  I though this was used to spoof surround sound through stereo speakers?  no good for somone who has 5.1 headphones.

also tried somthing not suggested by them, something to do with openal wrappers etc and that still doesnt work

All in all the support seems appaling and i cant tell whether they're not listening, dont care or stalling while they fix it.  I hope its the third but really doubt it.  Trouble is i cant find the damn receipt
the thing that bugs me the most is that the back of the box proudly claims that it supports advanced eax and one of the games listed is battlefield 2

I just recently upgraded from onboard audio to the X-Fi Platinum.  Hardware audio set at Ultra High.  I actually heard a prone enemy crawling about 15 meters away while I was point covering a teammate taking the Karkand suburb.  He came in loud and clear while I was driving the APC.  Almost felt like cheating.

Yeah Ultra High is nuts! You can hear paper and brick/plaster fall to the ground when you shoot at posters or hit walls.  I'm not sure about hearing prone enemies; prone friendlies I've very clearly.

The cockpit or heavy transport vehicles glass sounds like real glass when shot at. Weapons sound truly amazing especially the PKM and the L96A1 as well as a tank round being fired off and making you shell shocked. You get to hear the spent round casings bouncing on the ground (you get to hear this on High settings, but it sounds even better on Ultra High).

If you can afford getting an X-Fi soundcard get it!

I just got an audigy 2 nx and it has a button called CMSS, this allowes sound to come from the rear speakers as well, better than nothing i guess   :-/
