Is there was a way to run Battlefield 2 in a limited (user) Windows XP Professional account? I have been searching countless websites and forums for the past few hours or so looking for an answer to my problem only to be stuck at a dead end.

What Works
So far I have made some progress. Here is what I've got working in the limited account.
- The game/expansion pack/mods run
- I am able to login to account server
- View stats
- Create/join LAN games
- Create dedicated servers
- Singleplayer
- Downloading demos
- View recorder files
- Edit options
- View credits
- Exit

What Doesn't Work
I have only encountered one problem...which is the biggest one I could have. What doesn't work in the limited account is...
- Multiplayer: Any time I try to join a server it gives me "Invalid CD-Key".

What I've Tried
:: Allowing full read/write privilages to Electronic Arts install folder (and sub folders).
:: Allowing full read/write privilages to all registries I could find regarding Battlefield 2/SF.

Any help would be greatly appriciated. Also FYI, Windows Vista will run ONLY in user (limited) mode. If you want to install or modify something it will ask you for the root password (much like linux and Mac OS X does). So if anyone from EA is browsing this forum I suggest you start working on this problem.

Basically, I want to run BF2 in a limited Windows XP account (for security reasons) and I can't seem to figure out how to do it.

All other games that I have played I have been able to get working in a user account, this one is being difficult. Any time I try to join a server it tells me "invalid cd-key". It works in admin perfectly, just not in a limited user account.

What I've Tried
:: Allowing full read/write privilages to Electronic Arts install folder (and sub folders) -- This got the game running in the user account and I was able to log in to the account server.
:: Allowing full read/write privilages to all registries I could find regarding Battlefield 2/SF.

Any help would be greatly appriciated. Also does someone knows why the hell is BF2 a "administrator only" game in the first place? Why not make it more compatible with limited account, hundreds of other games do it...so it must not be a difficult thing to do.

Well, what I know you will be needing a new grapichs card to run Vista!!  DirectX 10 is included with Vista and no cards on the market can support that yet (correct me if I am wrong). That means, you need to buy a NEW video card, something like Nvidia 8000Series (not out yet). I got my new PC less then two months with a little older card 7800@265 and I am not very interested to change them in next two months lol. The point of my post is, will you really going to spend $300++ on a new video card for vista? If so, get it first, probably, by that time, EA/DICE will already fix that problem. I am not planning to do that....you know  Microsoft = Microcrash !

Anyway, It was a good find though !

Battlefield 2 works fine in an Administrator account, I'm trying to get it to run in a user account. I do have a legal version, bought it at ebGames in October 2005.

You will only need a new card if you want to run DX10 games (the only one I know of is Halo 2 PC so far). Windows Vista will work on DX9 cards.

PUNKBUSTER
- If you are playing Battlefield 2 with a limited user account within
Windows XP, PunkBuster may disconnect you from the server. We
recommend you use an Administrator account when playing on an internet
server with PunkBuster enabled.

I contacted EA wen i had this problem.
The reason is that bf2 can only be played (online) by one user account on a PC (the one that installed the game). This means that if ur bf2 was installed under the administrator account, only the administrator can use it

Any help?

I have an idea, but unless someone else is the administrator of the computer, it won't work.

Goal: Turn your account into an administrator account.

*This is for Windows XP*

1. Go to Control Panel, then on the lefthand bar, go to, "Switch to catagory view".

2. Go to User Accounts, or the picture of the two people.

3. Now where it says, "Pick an account to change", select your account.

4. Now go to, "Change my account type"

5. Now where it says Administrator, select it.

6. Finally, select the button that says, "Change account type."

I made my limited account an administator account, installed BF2, and then set it back to a limited account to fix the CD-Key error. But now PB kicks me from any server I join for having insufficiant OS rights. So all I have to do know is figure out what PB is not getting access to.

I contacted the PB team and they should be able to halp me.

Why don't you just leave it as an admin account?
