Just read them to my office. My mate almost got the 8 balls one. And my other mate got the fortune car one.

Go through it and see if you can get any!

Clock overlapping = 1440? Or around that?

EDIT: Apparently it's 22, but I was counting the second hand

Same with us here, we were annoyed seeing as it's a hand lol.

Some of them are awesome, like the window washing one.

8 balls one is easy. Weigh three and three, then weigh one and one of the three that was heavier. If during either of the two they weight the same, it's the one not being weighed.

A manhole cover is round because it can't slip through, no matter what orientation it is put in.

I think deadbeef has something to do with what it looks like in hex. My dad set our wireless password to some crazy ass string like cafebeefbabe because of some reasoning like that.

Phone number one is easy, you could perform some sort of operation with the numbers individually (like add them all up).

Where the fuck are the answers? It seems like a lot of these are just math guestimations or questions with no real answer.

shitload of answers to the pirate one

2 eggs is worded poorly, you only need 2 drops but it depends on how lucky you get.

When you reach the end (16/16) it says click here for answers.

You got a lot of them right.

Most of those questions I knew what had to be done but just couldn't be bothered actually working them out. The basket ball one, and the pirate one was easy though.

The window one got me though

Some of those answers were terrible (like the database one).

I got 3, 5, 9 and 12. I also got 13 but thought there must've been a better way to do it. Apparently there wasn't lol.

oh.

I saw the second set of questions then, and it's really even more unfairly biased than the first. A lot of those questions in the second set are really not that hard - to anyone that has had a course in computer science. The problem about sorting a trillion numbers, or the circular list for example.

congrats on getting that one - it's one of the best IQ questions around. All of the people in the top 1000 or whatever get it at once, while us "normals" often struggle. I struggled

I also heard that getting that one wrong at the interview means you're not good enough for Microsoft. Don't know if it's true, but fun story nonetheless.

The windows one was easy, except my answer was different to theirs. I said £xx an hour.

Half of them though are so vague, random and difficult (design an evacuation of San Fransisco?) I fail to see how they are supposed to make me feel stupid.

Also, what is this:

Spoiler (highlight to read):
Job: Software Engineer

Answer: He landed on Boardwalk. (Painful, right?)

Oh. I thought it probably was due to the 'car' and 'hotel' but had no idea what or where Boardwalk is in America.

I didn't really feel stupid reading those. I just thought, "Well obviously whoever is applying for these kinds of jobs should know this. But I'm not, so why should I care."

It's Monopoly, when a hotel is built on the most expensive spot on the board.

I've now had two computer science teachers tell me that people that hire from Microsoft and/or Bill Gates himself has said that they would hire people on the spot that truly understand basic abstract data types like stacks and linked lists lol.

how clever they should stop wasting everyone's time and start asking relevant questions such as "how do we build a browser to compete with the dominance of M$ and firefox" because they certainly can't answer that one.

So why don't they just hire all first year CompSci students?

Because most first year comp sci students don't truly understand the inner workings of abstract data types, particularly in respect to things like pointers, how to access it appropriately, how to iterate through them appropriately, etc.

Some of the questions was very easy, some required some additional thinking and the rest (about one third+) was pure faceplant when you read the answer

@jenspm: The manwhole cover was prolly the easiest, together with the 8 balls ...
