BitTorrent is extremely useful for lots of downloading and file-sharing, but if a less tech-inclined friend of yours doesn’t understand BitTorrent or you can’t install a BitTorrent client, new website httpTorrents lets you download files of popular torrents directly via HTTP.

Not every torrent out there is available to download through httpTorrents, although trying to download one that they don’t have will automatically add it to their list for future uploads. Right now the site is integrated with torrent tracker KickassTorrents, but in the future it could support other torrent sites, provided they display a torrent’s hash on listings. If you’ve got a torrent hash, using the site is simple: Go to your favourite torrent search engine, get the hash of the torrent you want, copy it and paste it into httpTorrents’ search bar. If they have the files hosted on their server, it will start the direct download.

Hmm, I wonder if this will allow me to bypass the blocked torrent port on my ISP.

Well if it's downloading the Torrent as if it were any other normal download, then I would think so :b

True that. I just entered a pretty popular torrent, didn't have it. This could work, but it'll take a while for any decent amount of torrents to become available.

If you type Kickasstorrents into Google, then click on 'Direct downloads', that's the complete list of compatible torrents.

I predict this will be closed the second a mod or admin logs in.

Why? It's not giving links to any torrent site, or any warez.

I'm getting about 500 kB/s, which is about 200x what I get from torrents. It'll include a lot of micro-management though, as you have to enter the hash, and click each part to download.

There is such a thing as legal torrents, cam.

I'll stick with uTorrent. I used to like mininova before they started using shit splash screens with stuff I didn't care about in the slightest.

/facepalm

uTorrent isn't a service. It's a program that allows you to access .torrent files and download them.

httpTorrents is a service. It allows you to search for .torrent files and download them automatically.

There is a huge difference.
