Give Far Cry 2 another try?

I got all excited when they made Far Cry 2, I got it the same week it came out.

Played about 2 hours to only be disappointed by this game. Anyways I found that this game sucked bad and never played it again.

It's on my shelf collecting dust for almost a year. I feel like installing it again to give it another try. Now I'm pretty sure the same thing will happen as last time, play it about 2 hours and never play it again.

So I come to you, should I install this again? It's either people really think this game sucks, or praise it.

Don't bother installing it. Terrible game. It could've been good but they made a series of very poor design decisions and ran with them. Far Cry 2 is the result .

And I read today that a sequel is underway. Urgh. I bet they build on what Far Cry 2 is as well. Such a waste of time when they could start from scratch and actually make a sequel to FarCry instead.

What I find really strange is that it got universally high scoring and positive reviews. It makes no sense whatsoever, unless every single reviewer was bought off. Which I find unlikely.

funny that this thread comes up after I threw my copy in the trash last night after going through all my old games to see what was worth keeping or giving away. I opted for the trash instead of passing it on to some other poor unsuspecting person.

The firefights in FarCry 2 consisted of being shot at by a truck load of randoms, who you couldn't out run. When you do kill them they respawn within 30 seconds and you have to do it all over again when you next drive past that patch of dirt road.

better than walking 4000 yards to get shot by a random fucking bullet and then finding out your last save point was 30 minutes ago, and then the game crashes.

No, don't play it again. All of the things wrong with it weren't bugs or balance issues, but features. They were meant to be like that. So even after leaving it for ages and coming back to with the latest updates, the game won't be any better.

I know. I can sort of see why they would give it such huge scores. Some of the missions were good, the weapons were varied and it was a nice 'open' (for lack of a better word) world. However, things like the malaria, massive weapon imbalances, respawning issues and AI behavior meant that - for me at least - every aspect of the game had one thing which stopped it being good. Ultimately, the finished game was less the the sum of it's parts, and grading the game from these individual parts stopped the real issues from coming through.
