What can I say. For Mac users, ignorance is bliss.

He's a tool that wants to create a flame war, and he did just that. I don't care for his stupid reasoning.

Well, that's basically what you're doing....
I outlined two drawbacks of XP. He outlined 0 flaws with my argument.
yea, but they're just opinions, and assuming that he's got more than 3 gigs of ram, and games that require dx10+...

I was meaning you. You're going to be on 32-bit XP, because there are like 3 drivers for 64 bit. 32 bit is limited to 4GB of RAM in total. Take out your GPU RAM, assuming you've got a 1680x1050 monitor, that'd mean you're using a 1GB card, you get 3GB of RAM.

I know it's crazily assumptive, but I could write out paragraphs and paragraphs of reasons why you should upgrade. With pretty pictures, too.

E- okay it wasn't you, I got confused.

Have fun accessing 3GB RAM max, and DX9.

Ok, you are wrong because you think about it in black and white.  yes, the Vista and 7 OS's handle more RAM, DX10, have lots more whistles and bells and can handle more powerful hardware.  What you fail to realize is that you are basing your assumptions and opinions over the facts of what YOU expect from an OS.  I will try not to be too blunt with you so how can I put this.....ok, here we go:

Answer me this, on the street where you live, how many households have computers and how many computers per household?  Are there any stores, businesses or internet cafes near you?  If so, how many computers total do you think they have?

Now, out of all the computers you just guesstimated, how many of those computers are gaming computers, graphic design computers or some sort of high concentration data processing computers?

Now, if you said that anything over say 10% were gaming, graphical design or high powered data processor machines I'd say you were lying and/or severely misinformed.   Now that we have established that almost 85% of computers in existence today are enterprise computers, please explain to me why you think they will need 6gigs of DDR3 and DX10 to run Office Applications?

Vista is NOT a more stable platform that XP.  To say it is.....well it's fucking idiotic at best.  XP has been in use for how long?  It has been upgraded, patched, hot-fixed, and streamlined how many times?   The majority of the applications and programs designed in the last 10 years were designed to run and be compatible for what OS? XfuckingP.  I have to work on Vista enterprise machines everyday, the program is so fucked up I literally have a job because of it.

If he's on a gaming forum, I'm going to assume he uses his computer to play computer games. Therefore, over 3GB of Ram would be helpful. Or stop me if you somehow think 3GB ram is plenty.

Also, way to put words in my mouth. Not once did I say Vista is more stable than XP.

So, since we are on a gaming forum, everything should be taken in the context of gaming?  In that case: http://forums.bf2s.com/viewtopic.php?id … &p=38, I think your joystick is broken.

Also, while you didn't say that it wasn't stable you DID say it wasn't broken, which it is, because it isn't stable.  See what I did there, tis called train of thought.

So, because Dell sells Vista with every one of their craptops, and the average stupid shit user fills it with viruses, spamware, and other crap that the slightly intelligent person wouldn't, it's now unstable?

It's the userbase that is unstable. People who are still on XP are cautious, they don't want to upgrade to a new OS that they don't know about, so it's likely they'll be more cautious when on the internet. More cautious = less crap, less crap = more stable. Whereas the userbase of Vista mainly consists of teenage girls on their laptops downloading from Limewire, causing endless amounts of problems, for which they all blame on Vista.

If I can run a Vista computer for the same time as an XP computer (which I can, btw) then it's just as stable.

we use Dell 'craptops', pre-installed with XP. 40% of the programs we use won't run on Vista (mostly hydrology and structures stuff).
we have one Dell workstation with 24gb ram, dual xeon procs, nVidia 1.5gb Qudro fx. built for a particular surveying 3d modeler.
and three Macs.

STFU with your 'stability' this or that, you have no real world experience. the Macs are for what they do - every adobe program runs flawlessly on them.

it's getting old, the way people use "absolute pronouncements" and claim to be the authority on all things all things.

I agree with you, Macs are the pinnacle of stability. They are much more efficient with their hardware, and are generally faster, spec for spec. But they're so damn expensive for what you get, and their advertisement campaign makes me hate them on principle.

Yes i do use my computer to play game, but its still an old shitty single core to begin with, so right there is the first problem...and im amazed at how long ive been running this Piece of shit and ive been able to keep up with the group. So for a single core 2 gb ram 512mo video card...i dont need any vista for window 7 that will eat at least half of my force just to give me a "nice looking interface". So for me...XP! Plus i know XP pretty well for having it for what...5-6 years, so i manage to keep it very stable and clean. When ill build myself a new rig, ill see in time if 7 is the answer...as of now, its a big no no. Eventually it will get better and maybe will be the next XP in a couple years!

Well, if you're using hardware from the time XP was released, obviously you're going to be better off using an Operating System released at that time too.

Oh, and as far as the resource hogging goes, Aero (the 'nice looking interface') is currently using 13,252k memory. As a comparison, Opera, my browser, which is known for low resource usage, is using 80,336k.
