Although radiation is emitted, don't forget to mention which type of radiation. Electromagnetic radiation is barely relevant in a general sense to what most think of when they hear radiation. And besides that, these CRT screens are undoubtedly shielded for whatever type of harmful light waves are produced, probably x-rays. What Tyferra brought up seems a bit more logical as a potential source of damage, if you can call it that. As a side note I wear contacts, all the time, and probably a year or two before I seriously began using computers with frequency. Otherwise we are talking about old-wives tales of kids getting cancer from microwaves.

I do know that staring at a monitor for 3 hours without blinking or looking away is a bad idea.

And it hurts.

Eye strain sucks, take a break, get a soda, look away for a while. It's good for you!

No, I don't have glasses.
Yes, staring at a computer screen day in, day out will earn you glasses as your vision will switch from Long to Short, and it will be harder to see at distance.
This is nothing against computers, the same thing happens if you read too much, or are into model making. Any overdose of short-visioned activity tends to do this.
sorry to inform you bro, but ive read a lot as a kid in poor light and played mad video games for the better part of 17 years now, yeah im 25, and i have 20-15 vision......... so either i have good genes, or im a genetic freak

thats why they say watch, DO NOT watch TV too close to it and DO NOT stay in front of a monitor too close either.

So do what I do. Get a projector, and a big white sheet and pin it on your ceiling. The rest you can figure it out.

It differs from person to person. Some people can watch TV with their noses pressed to the glass and don't 'suffer' any side effects. Locoloki, you're not a genetic freak, sorry to inform you, just... lucky I guess. I'm in the same boat. My vision switched around a bit and I'm a tad short-sighted but like I said, glasses arn't needed.

My theory dosn't apply to everyone, it is just generally accepted by most Optitions, (I'm not by the way, an Optitian, but am long overdue for a visit.)

Nothing wrong with glasses though, I don't know why people can be so uptight about it.

Staring at a monitor all day everyday at work for the past 9 years has earned me glasses. I had perfect vision before i started.

I've been wearing glasses since I was in 1st grade.  Although, I've been using a computer since I was the age of 3.  I've played computer games ever since I've been able to walk and talk.  Now I wear contacts of course and my vision is 20/200.  That means I'm almost, if not already, legally blind by law.  Genetics also play a role in determining if you will develop vision problems.  My old man currently has just a little worse vision than me and there's a 30 year difference between us.  There's no way that genetics alone can make my vision as bad is it is at my age, and I'm 17.  On average I play about 7 hours of gaming every day and by now if I had been playing only BF2, I'd prolly be one of the top 10.

The evil lady who represents opticians came to my school and took my eyesight away from me when i was 8-9. Before that my eyesight was fine i could see everything. Opticians want everyone to wear glasses.Trust me just dont have an eyetest unless you really need one!!! Once they get you wearing glasses your vision is going down hill. Now i wear contact lenses so it it's not so bad.

I don't khave glasses. And I reckon playing on a PC is just an excuse for glasses, trying to stop kids playing them. all day everyday since i got my pc, been on it. before I had my pc, all day everyday (other then school and chores of coure) I would be on ithe ps2. before that it was the ps1. and even before that it was the super nintendo. and I have perfect vision. (last time I checked, whichwas about a year ago)

Congratz! No one cares!

Yup, contacts 4TL.  Yup, anything you stare at intently, like a computer monitor, watching paint dry, reading a book, and calculus will do this to you.

No I never wear glasses, no you don't need glasses when you stare at your screen, no it doesn't give you any advantage when you wear glasses.
