Hai.
So now i have this 24 inch LG computer monitor, that also has an HDMI port.
So i hooked up my PS3 with an HDMI cable to the monitor.
It works fine and everything, but i think there is something wrong with the resolution while playing games.
When i play a blu ray movie it works very very good, 1080p in full detail, but when i'm playing a game, everything looks sort of either blurry or heavily aliasized.
It looks choppy, e.g. when i play Wolfenstein (the new one) everything looks sort of blurry and low res, but when i brought it to my friends house (he has a Sony BRAVIA HD tv) and it looked cristal clear.
What am i doing wrong?
I know my monitor is capable of supporting full 1080p.

The monitor probably isn't as good at rendering in 720p then. That's usually something to consider with monitors, unlike TV's they're usually worse at resolutions anything other than their native resolution and resolutions near it. Good HD TV's usually have all sorts of processing and shit to make other resolutions still look good. A monitor is just a raw device for the most part.

That's my take on it. Oh yeah, and yes some games run in 720p even if you have 1080p enabled, you can get around it, for some games, by turning off 720p in the PS3 Display settings but it only works for same games to "force" it into 1080p, other times it just reverts to SD 576/420 which is crap. GTA IV is a game that can be forced into 1080p even though it always selects 720p otherwise, and it actually looks much better when forced into 1080p, depending on your TV though, I guess.

With consoles, some games run in 1080p straight away, some only in 720p and some can be forced into 1080p.

Happens to me to0 on my 32" tv --> When I'm at the PS3 XMB (think that is what it is called) my tv is in 1080i, but when I launch some games it goes to 720p.  So I think it is just that some games don't support 1080p/i.

So if i force the games to run 1080p it will make most of the games look better?
uhmm might try that

tried forcing gta 4 1080p by unticking 720p and 1080i but it didn't work....everything looks blurry as shit.
If my monitor is running the XMB and blu ray movies at 1080i/p why is it running the game at SD?
ffs

Well that's weird, when I turned off 720p and 1080i, for me, GTA IV then went into 1080p instead of SD mode. It looks like for you GTA IV instead went into SD mode. Are you sure your monitor supports 1080p, the p is the key thing here. Try just turning off 720p and see if the game runs in 1080i

Basically, that trick would only work with certain games anyway, for the most part, most games run in 720p, and if your monitor sucks at 720p, well there's not much you can do about that

yes coz when i plugged the monitor to my pc the resolution went beyond 1080, plus the sticker on the monitor says its 1080p compatable and the movies run at 1080p, a message appears when i play a blu ray movie saying its at 1080p.

What games have you got, try and find a game that can run in 1080p without any nonsense about changing the settings around. GT5:P is a game that instaruns in 1080p. Also some PSN games and shit

No you don't really need SD upscaler, turn 720p and 1080i back on and run some games that automatically run in 1080p to see whether the problem is because your monitor can't run games very well at 720p

My catalog of games:
Killzone 2
STarwars force unleashed
inFamous
Little Big Planet
Batman Arkham Asylum
Heavenly Sword
X-men Wolverine
GTA4
Wolfenstein
Dragon Age: origins.
Uncharted 2

Most of the games are 720p
Some of them have 720p, 1080i + 1080p written on the back.

I also have a HDMI -> DVI  cable...should i try that?

actually i hooked it up to the pc again and the resolution is exactly 1920x1080

Use the HDMI -> DVI cable. I use that for my PS3 I never have any resolution problems.  Set it up to 1080p, never had to mess with it since.

Mek, no consoles put raw 1080p out. They render 720p and upscale it.

I'm pretty sure some games actually do put out in 1080p, and some render in 720p (or even less) and upscale it to 720p/1080p, it all depends on the game. Anyway it doesn't matter because it's the end resolution that is coming out of the box which means everything when considering what's going on for him

It's the fact that he's running a monitor which is his downfall. He'll want a proper HDTV if he wants to experience things best.

That is your problem.  Your monitor's native resolution is better than 1080p.  Anything not native is generally crap.  Try it on a 1920x1080 monitor.
