If he downloads and runs Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, he should be able to remove it so long as he remembers to update the protection files.

If you can't run it in normal Windows, give it a shot in Safe Mode.

1) Download MBAM installer EXE, but DO NOT save it under the default name. Make sure you have Firefox set to allow you to choose where to save a file and then you can change the EXE. Change it to explorer.exe or iexplore.exe. Save it to the desktop.

2) Install MBAM from the EXE you just saved. It should work.

3) Do a FULL scan and follow MBAM's instructions for removal.

4) If you were able to successfully complete a scan and after a restart, do another FULL SCAN. If you're clean, you're fine.

5) If you were unable to do a full scan in Windows normal mode, then reboot into Safe Mode and try from there with both installing MBAM and scanning.

Install COMODO Firewall, too, if you can. That will at least prevent the virus from spreading. If you are connected to a home network, be sure to check your other computers for infection. I had the same problem earlier and the virus would just keep spreading across my home network.

ComboFix can also fuck your computer up royally, that's why Catbox said use it as a last resort. Use a normal anti-virus first and see how far that brings you.

used it like 4 times and never had a problem. also it creates restore point so you can always go back. But you are right, its last what can save your pc and you should always try an AV software first. Its definitely not designed for routine checks but for huge fuckups.
