  • [Wireless on PC] Lag / Connection Error Every Minute or Two

I've got a wireless adapter for my PC (this one) and it seems to receive data in big bursts, which results in lag or connection errors every few minutes when gaming. Is there any way for me to smooth this out, or is that just the way things go with a cheap wireless adapter?

I have that same adapter, though its used in a media streaming PC, not for gaming, and I can tell you that it works fine for me, so maybe it's the game you're playing?

It works just fine for downloading and browsing the internet. I've played BF2 (where "Connection Error" pops up frequently) and MW2 (where the lag happens; sometimes I will shoot at players and none of the bullets will connect, and then I'll suddenly be jumped a few feet over; I also saw a kill cam where to me, I died when I was far behind a house, but on the other player's screen, I was frozen for a few seconds wherein he shot me, and then my body jumped to behind my cover and I died).

Update the drivers?

Or just run an ethernet cable to your PC...

Updating now, not sure if it'll do anything though.
EDIT: Drivers are already fully up-to-date.

And yes, obviously running a wired connection would be better, but I can't do that right now, which is why I'm trying to figure out this instead.

[Updating in case I experience this problem again in the future, and for anyone else out there]

Well I went into device manager and played with some settings for the network card and things seemed to have improved. Properties > Advanced, then enabled a bunch of random stuff that was disabled (frame aggregation, 802.11h, smart scan, tx burst). Probably only had to mess with one of them, but considering I don't know what any of those are or do, only thing that matters is that I got it working. Oh and I also went to the power management tab and unchecked the box that said "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", which also probably could've been the only thing I had to mess with.

I was gonna suggest this.

A lot of the new Netbooks come with their wireless adapters limited in some way, usually for power saving.
