I'm in need of some new headphones, as my current Icemat Siberias are held together by welded plastic and a staple, which isn't exactly comfortable. Budget is 130 euros, I'll only be using them for my PC. No microphone preferred. Any suggestions?

Those are exactly within my budget, but why do you recommend them?
I got a pair of Sennheiser HD280 Pro's. By far the best headphones I've ever owned.
-Very comfortable
-Long cord, but spiraled so it isn't a nuisance
-Fit very snug
-Blocks out a lot of ambient noise
-Great sound quality
They're about $100 USD...not sure how that is in euros.
If you want something a little more expensive then just grab a higher model of Sennheiser. Can't go wrong with Sennheiser.

I am also interested in this. There seems to be agreement on the 595's.
But say you went up a tier? What headphones would you then end up with, at what price, and how big would the difference be?

Jens regarding levelling up; all people I know that had either 555s or 595s have levelled up and bought HD6xx including me. The difference is just big enough to not go back. Don't get me wrong HD5xx series is amazing but it lack detail compared to HD6xx.

Amp is a must or you will bump volume to the max and still get nothing much of a sound. Also an amp will improve the sound by a mile. DAC is just for the exquisite, its another plus for the sound but you already know thatmcminty wrote:

Holy shit these HD595s are nice. I wasn't sure about the sound at first but after a minute I really noticed the difference between these and my icemat siberia. So what's this I hear about amps, anyway?
So for the money you would say the HD595 is a good buy? In a very similar position.

Not much different. Basically 555 have foam between the driver and ear pads while 595 doesn't. That makes the sound different not better. Perhaps sound stage is wider. For the same money you can get HD580 which are discontinued but are still being sold. HD580 are basically uglier version of HD600 but offer the best value for the money.Overdose wrote:

Backwards yes I confused foam with some plastic parts. Besides the foam "mod" there's also another mod but requires cutting some parts of the cans and that is irreversible once its done.Wallpaper wrote:
