Since I spun out in the protege in rainy weather on the highway and had a light impact with a guard rail, they totalled the car (2002 mazda protege5)

We are getting a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe as a replacement and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience on these cars? It has only 45k miles, 3.5l v6 and full time 4WD.

I think it's the mid-range model, GSL or some shit.

Are these cars any good off road? I havn't found many videos of them.

That's basically the same car as we are getting except I think that's a base model... ours has fog lights, running boards, stripes on the side and some other stuff.

That thing handled like it was on rails..... Just apparently not in the rain.

Terrible for off-road. It's not the best on the street either...

What aboot in the snow? It'll surely be decent?

When we test drove it it seemed like it had tons of grip but also tons of body roll (it was raining pretty hard on the test drive we took).

Seemed peppy, not fast by any standard, but wasn't too slow.

Only the newer Hyundais are any good. The ones pre 2006 are just a fail.

That thing should not be taken off road. It is not a off-road vehicle.

edit: saw a show on tv where they compared some SUVs and this one was the worst off-road.

A friend had totaled on of these things by spinning it into a barrier and pancaking the rear-end, I think it was a 2004 or 5. It still drove (horribly), so we took it to an empty parking lot in early January and had fun with it. The thing was TERRIBLE on the snow; we almost rolled it multiple times. Even when being conservative and not trying to fuck around too much it slid like mad (had fairly new tires). Of course this is with a totally fucked body and 1/2 an exhaust system, but I think the general review still holds.

I hope you haven't paid for that Santa Fe, they really are very poor.

You'll regret that POS. My mother test drove an 02 when she was on the market for a new car back then, and it was shit.

Rolls enormously, shitty brakes, no power, handles like two bricks and it's even worse in the snow.

Get an older Audi or Subaru for the same price and better quality.
I like pie.
