it's not so much about money, as morello and co. actually giving a fuck about this whole chart-bullshit.

back in their prime they were anti-establishment, fuck the industry, stick it to the man etc. now they're just a bunch of old-guys with their back-catalogue on sony begging for sales over amazon so they can top a chart in britain. sad sad sad. rage have really fallen in my esteem and regard. its not even making some huge anarchist anti-xfactor statement; it;s replacing one mainstream pop-industry evil with another... manufactured pop being replaced by sell-out mainstream-label rap metal. what's the actual difference in musical terms? nothing. they're both part of a corporate hegemony that does nothing to 'further' or genuinely support music. the fact morello is yapping on about revolution and anarchism the whole time shows just what a deluded and self-important dickcheese the guy really is.

what sorta fucking attitude is that

and as a matter of fact, yes i would. i would rather tuck into my mince pies and sit around with my family with miley cyrus in the background than some angsty dreadlocked 'anarchist' circa 2001 shouting "FUCK YOU I WONT DO WOTCHA TELL ME". it's cringeworthy teenage rebellion, put away your stupid fucking bullhorns and slipknot t-shirt and grow/wisen the fuck up.

It doesn't matter what song it is, don't you understand the meaning of this 'action' at all? People are sick of having those X-Factor or whatever shitty pop songs at the top of the list

a) same record label
b) same profiteers
c) same 'sphere' of music i.e. the mainstream, sold out, whored crap
d) same recycled crap; there's no difference between the paint-by-numbers pop ballad and the cliche nu-metal track

it's the same shit. the only statement people are making by doing this is a statement of their own musical dumbassery, and the worst thing is that the only tangible product we have of all this mental /fail is a really shitty and unsuitable christmas song.

I really couldn't care less myself what song tops the charts in any country. All those lists these days are filled with pop, (shit)hip-hop, autotuned crap, and drop-D emo songs.

Imo, this is just a quite fun idea that got out of hand, with result of RATM topping the charts (when does it end?). I agree that they might not have put  much thought into it, but heck, the statement they wanted to make kinda succeeded.

I don't see why/how you're comparing badly drawn up similarities between Killing in the Name of and whatever the fuck that Joe guy sang.

who's comparing the song? it's the principle and musical 'statement' that people are supposedly 'making'. both artists/songs embody the same (corporate-mainstream) values. yeah so high-five some whiny faggot from a boring reality show didnt get his token number-one, instead we just gave it to his label-companions that have the cheek to pretend to be somehow rebellious and anarchist about it. at least the xfactor is sincere in its artistic bankruptcy; rage act like they're changing the fucking world in this shit.

Either way sony's gonna get a load of money, wouldn't you rather that at least some of it went to a charity instead of all to a massive corporation?
Who gives a shit what band it is and what it sounds like and what the 'statement' is, it's for a better cause than the other song.

people didnt start this 'statement' or buy the single to support charity... it was an incidental development, probably the only positive thing to come out of this farce. so it's kinda irrelevant, and my point about the hypocrisy and futility of the 'statement' still stands.

Surely whether or not they're making a statement doesn't matter as long as someone other than the massive corporations benefits from this?
