leibstandarte adolf hitler was a division mostly consisted of Hitler youth and were mostly grenadiers and infantry correct? Don't know much about totenkopf although I did hear about it.

the totenkopfdivision was made up mostly of concentration camp guards

the leibstandarte was not made up mostly of hitlerjugend but of those young men that fulfilled the physical requirements (which were pretty high until 1940/41)

they were both first motorized infantry divisions (the leibstandarte until 1942 only had the strength of a reinforced regiment), then armored infantry divisions and finally (at the end of 1943) panzer (armored) divisions

btw, a doctoral candidate, who wrote his dissertation about joachim peiper (who was a regimental commander in the leibstandarte and who was most probably responsible for the massacres of boves and malmedy), told me that his research has shown, that the members of the leibstandarte were almost entirely military dilettantes

that surprised me a little bit although my m.a. thesis also had shown that a lot of the stereotypes regarding the waffen-ss (significantly higher losses than the wehrmacht, elite divisions, fanatical fighters, fire brigade of the eastern front, better equipment than wehrmacht divisions etc.) are simply not (or not entirely) true
