My current wireless laser mouse works fine, but only when i let it levitate slightly over whatever surface it's on. This obviously puts a lot of stress on my wrist having to constantly keep the mouse above a surface but not too high. I also have a lot of problems navigating it because of this. If I let it just rest on a desk or folder it doesnt move as smooth. So what can i do about this? it used to work just fine. I'd imagine it has to do with the bottom of the mouse and how the treads or whatever have worn out. would a mouse pad help? it's just an inconvenience and id rather not spend more money on a new one

Are you talking about the actual cursor on the screen or the mouse itself? If you have a mouse pad lying around, it wouldn't hurt to try it and see what happens. Also you could try cleaning the bottom of your mouse. Oh and what mouse is it?

Worn out pads, dirty pads or you need something with a bit of texture for it to read from.
I find the grey cardboard backer from paper pads works fine, a plain desk doesn't have enough detail.
Or you can take it apart and pack the LED up internally, depending on the design.

Dell mice are usually rebranded Logitechs.

The pads on my Dell wireless mouse fell off, then the pad supports wore off.
Haven't found any replacement pads so went back to wired, which works a lot better.
