Im looking to buy a Laptop or a Netbook, im not sure really which. I really want something small like a netbook, but the cheapest netbooks are around 250. But the performance of them are significantly less than that of a cheap laptop - say 400 dollars.

So if im gunna buy a lappy i want something that is the best for the money.

Talk to me about cheap laptops i cant spend more then 400. Is there a commonly known good lappy. I see lappys now days with like 4gb ram and last time i knew lappys were still pushing 1gb max ha.

Toshiba or Lenovo laptop

Toshiba's got some nice Pentium dual cores with a 14" screen and 4GB of RAM

Laptop is for moving around the house. Netbook is for moving around the city.

Make your choice.

This seems like pretty good performance and its an 11 inch widescreen. So its almost as small as a netbook but dual core and decent ram. You see?

EDIT oops that wasnt the 11 inch thats 15 inch

Athlon II. Not 11" screen.

It weighs 6lbs and has a 15.4" screen

If you're going to be writing large documents on it, go get yourself a Laptop.

I wouldn't recommend a netbook for anything but IRC/MSN/etc, watching TV shows, and light browsing.

And yeah. 720p H.264 playback is horrid on an Atom processor, well at least for me it is. (Lenovo S10)

Isn't H.264 down to the GPU?

Netbooks are lame in my opinion. They don't come with the re-install CD's so if you ever get a virus that you can't get rid of, or just need to reformat in general, you'll need to buy a new copy of Windows and buy or borrow a USB CDROM.

Besides that, they're pretty slow booting up n stuff. It's kind of like a disposable laptop.

That's why there is dedicated space on HDD that has a complete Windows+preinstalled software backup.

Also hugely depends on the CPU.

Yeah, but that's for smart people who can figure out how to do that. Unlike myself.

During the boot process is says "press F11 to run system restore". People have to be really dumb to not figure this out. Downy I'm absolutely positive you are not one of those people.
