what would you say is the difference?  i'm having a hard time starting an essay of mine so...

for me, being alive:
-animal instinct
-about the id
-mechnical (your mind is a machine)
-about personal needs
-deemed more "important" than living
-what's "necessary" in life
-paying bills
-health care
-emotionless
-mersault in The Stranger
-pure existence
-meeting the basic needs of life

living:
-about your wants and the wants of others
-caring for yourself and others
-about more than just biological needs
-love, relationships
-conquering challenges, fears
-luxuries

Being Alive is a song from the Broadway musical, Company. It was written by Stephen Sondheim. The song is the ultimate song sung by the main character, Robert in the second act.

Living is the second album by Irish musician Paddy Casey, it was released on October 17, 2003. It was re-released with a bonus disc featuring B-sides and live tracks on November 26, 2004.

Where's the confusion?

Being alive = being conscious that your decisions and actions have an impact on the future.

living you mean.  i'm still not sure which is which, pretty sure it's semantics.

I hate stupid papers like that where there's no right or wrong answer. It all boils down to pointless dribble that sounds good.

See I thought 'being alive' is being aware, conscious.  'Living' to me is simply existing, like an animal.

Perhaps you could work in a "Frankenstein" reference - in proclaiming "it's alive", Dr Frankenstein merely thought he had taken a bunch of haphazard pieces of flesh and reanimated them, taking something 'dead' and making it 'living'.  Little did he know that he actually created something capable of being alive - something with wants emotions, desires, fully aware and able to explain and act out those desires.

that's actually really, really good for me because the paper encompasses all my years at my HS, and we read frankenstein the 2nd year, so it works amazingly well.
