Cheater or Hacker?

This may sound like a n00b question at first..... but what's the difference?

The way I see it is different how some others see it.
When I think of a cheater, I think of someone putting him codes that where alreadly in the game. Like cheat codes.
For EX. on PS2 something like Trinagle, Up, Up, Left, Right, Up, Down, O
And for PC pressing the ~ key and typing in "I'm God, BOW DOWN TO ME!!" Turning on "God Mode".
While saying something like "Cheat Enanbled".
And how I see a hacker is someone that has a hack program of some sort that alters the game in ways that it wasn't necissarly meant.

So when I see someone in a BF2 server floating up in the sky, comming down real fast then knifing me. Some may call him a cheater, but I'm going to call him a hacker.
What would you call him?

I was just wondering what everone else thought and what everyone else thinks.
Maybe someone can actually tell me what the actually definition between a cheater and a hacker is, if there is one.

id say its the same thing cuz in BF2 there is no cheat codes that u can type during multiplayer, so in BF2 i would call him more of a hacker but also a cheater

Bloody Sky , good point. I would call a 'cheater', those that buy the codes for use on a multiplayer game, if it's a single player game, he's not affecting anyone else but himself. A 'hacker' could be the person that creates the code or alters the original code to suit himself, if he then uses it in a multiplayer game to enhance his standing, he's an ass, because he can spoil the experience of those that play fairly and without cheats/hacks.

I guess cheating is more gaming-related, using hacks or changing code to "improve" gaming performance, while hacking is a more general term. not everyone who cheats is a hacker, most of these kids simply download cheats from some website and use them. hackers are those who create cheats.

Hacking is basically making something do something it wasnt meant to do!.
generally the term hackers and cheats in games such as bf2 means pretty much the same thing!
usually someone hacking has a program they use to give them the advantage and cheats would proberly be referd to people who abuse exploits in the game (point farming)

Yeah, that's exactly how I was thinking about it.
In BF2:
Cheaters - Point Farmers, people who take fair advantages with gliches, etc.
Hackers - Using a program to enchance your playing like wallhacks & Aimbots, etc.

And LoL at thinner!

i wouldnt call anyone a "hacker" really in this game. If they are running a program, they sure as hell didnt code it on their own, so they're just running someone elses "hack". Therefore I would just consider them a cheater.

And then there are script kiddies that cant write their own hacks and use pre-written scripts to modify their installation so that they can cheat.

So:

Hackers: People who can code or use drivers to modify what they can or cant do in game.
Script Kiddies: People who cant write their own code, but can download their skills and run an .exe
Cheaters: People who use glitches to their advantage.

Cheater. You don't realize it when hackers are there, and a hacker probobly won't even be playing the game when he is hacking the server.

Cheaters are penile deficient 8 year olds who think getting a kill by seeing the person through the wall is getting a kill none the less. We all know the bf2 aimbots are shit, so I'll leave those out.
