Kay this Windows 7 is pissing me off already.

I keep getting the error about W7 being unable to update the boot configuration at 27%, and all the suggestions on Google have failed including regedit, clean install, etc. Is this something that can't be fixed and I'm wasting my time or does anyone have a fix for this?

I'm on XP btw.

Are you upgrading or doing a fresh install?

I've heard terrible things about upgrading.

I can't upgrade with XP, that's just for Vista I believe and XP requires a clean install.

Ok... well, uh... when installing it, did you delete the existing partition and reformat it before telling it to install?

Sorry, just tryin gto figure out all the steps you've taken.

Delete the boot config files when in Windows 7 install setup. There should be a small partition containing boot data. Delete.

win 7 install was the most painless microsoft install for me, ever.
it did not even mess with the files that were on the destination drive, i have never seen this before.

i am dual booting XP (250gb drive) and win 7 (500gb drive) and have a 36gb raptor for a page file.

For me it was right the opposite- never experienced that many problems during an OS installation before. But I managed

thank you for not telling me beforehand.

i install windows @ five times a week at work (mostly XP, our software isn't certified for vista/seven for the most part) and i've not seen any install as fast as the win 7 i did at home.

i did install win 7 at work monday, but that was from a dell restore disc that went on a new workstation (Precision TX500). i get to, er, i have to do 'software testing' on it the rest of the week

The installation is completed quite fast indeed when there are no problems, especially when I was installing on an SSD

I suggest installing W7 onto a new partition or extra drive if you can.

Make it exclusively an OS boot drive and store everything else onto other disc space. Makes cleaning up a mess like this much easier.
