Specs:
Intel Q9650 at 3.8 ghz
Asus P5E X38 with Rampage X48 902 bios
4gb Corsair DDR2 800 Ram 5-5-5-16
Windows 7 Home 64 bit
Seagate 500gb 7200rpm from 2006

I've done memtest, defrag and sector test, stress tests to make sure eveything is running well.

Eveything is taking its time to load, all my friends load in faster than me even though they have slower computers. I've been noticing it mostly with MW2.
Im thinking its the harddrive, since its old.

Hmm, a 7200rpm hdd should be fine, how old is it? Maybe if it was an old 5400 then yeah, it's probably the hard drive, is it a baracuda?

But yeah, I say defrag, or if that doesn't work, backup reformat.

And some sound advice from my girlfriend sat here beside me: 'Tell him that if he goes outside and plays in the sun it will help his vitamin D deficiency that's making him so cranky about his games loading so slow that he has to sit on the internet and cry about it.'

Its a 2005 barracuda 7200 rpm and i just formatted and installed win 7 a couple of days ago to see if it was vista that was causing everything to load slow.

How is it running with 7 on it now? It sounds like the HDd is starting to give up the ghost. What is your ram like? Remember tha games load maps and such from the ram too, maybe a ram related problem?

My ram is fine, i swtiched it out for  a different set and the problem still occurs. Windows 7 is faster but the games are still the same. Im going to just buy a velociraptor and see if that works.

You read tech threads with your girlfriend?

Thats slightly ironic, that she would mention about someone going outside, considering how much time you spend on these very forums Cam.

Don't buy a Raptor, for price/speed you're much better off with an SSD.

Try disabling swapping. Also, do you have the games and the OS installed on the same partition?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

How much space you using? Coz I've heard if you got too much shit it slows down a lot.

Not if you keep your disk defragmented.

Alright problem solved, two WD Blacks 640gb in RAID 0. I load faster than most people now instead of being last in the server.

But now i have an old install of windows on my old harddrive and it wont let me format. How can i delete it/format without it saying "You do not have permission to delete this file."

If all HDDs are plugged in try to reinstall 7 to the point where you can choose the HDD you want to install it to.
Try to format the old HDD. Or was this the way you've tried ?

Too fucking expensive, id rather pay $150 for two harddrives and have 1.2 tb of space rather than 32 gb of space.

And i just the other harddrive to my xp machine and formatted it there since i did not have permission on win 7, wtf.
