Just submitted the worst essay I've ever written.

Badly written, didn't flow very well, didn't actually make many interesting points, sources were lame, topic was boring, slightly short on the word count, didn't really give my opinion anywhere.

And I spent fucking ages trying to do it ... got to the point where nothing was happening so I gave up and submitted it.

Windmill Technology in Medieval Europe.

It was the third and final essay of this module. My first one was on the Ancient Greeks and how they worked out the size of Earth/Moon/Planets/Sun/Universe/etc (interesting to write about ... I did well). Second one was on the history of the "race to absolute zero" (interesting to write about ... I did well).

For a history module on my physics course.

I also hate it when that happens. I tend to write pathetically, and end up doing alright. Nothing spectacular, but nothing hopelessly depressing.

"Science in History" module. It's open to all science (and engineering, I think) students.

I chose it because there's no exam, just three essays. So I've already passed the course without that third essay anyway.

But it sounds rather interesting lick. Development of the mathematics behind it all, gear ratios. Even advancements in construction techniques, metallurgy. The global aspect, whether things were spurred on via diffusion from the East. Military applications even. Talk about how the wind powered mill freed up labour. Economies of scale. Green technology.

Talk about the Medieval Warm Period, and how Europe coped with it, and the fact that "Windmills do not work that way"

Infact, that would have been a good ending quote.

The trouble is, all the interesting stuff to with windmills seemed to happen in post medieval times. Medieval windmills seemed to be pretty boring, and there isn't much information about them.

When you think about it, how they went about building one using then technology, how they worked out all the maths, understood the principles of converting wind into rotational energy.. it's like, them bitches knew what they were doing. More fascinating than you think
