I used a camera phone. So of course it's not that bright. I've had my xbox for about 4 years now. Hasnt failed me yet.
Thanks, I'll give it a go when i've bought the screwdriver and see what happens, not like i can fuck it up any more.haffeysucks wrote:
the only "real" fix is replacing the x-clamp behind the mobo (opposite side of the heatsink) with proper nuts and bolts, and replacing the nasty thick shit they call thermal paste with truly thermally conductive stuff (such as AS5).presidentsheep wrote:
Slightly off topic, anyone managed to fix the three red lights error?
As far as I can tell its some heat damage but I havent got a T8 driver to get the heatsink off. Anyone know any good way to fix this, if so i'll go buy a t8 driver, seems pointless if its fucked though.
The towel thing seems fucking stupid though.
edit: oh then after you do that, you don't screw in the bolts all the way. turn the xbox on til 2 lights light up (that's the overheat message) and let it run for 2 minutes exactly. this is to resolder the shit that got broken the first time. then turn off the xbox and while the CPU and GPU are cooling, screw in the bolts nice and tight. and you're done. working xbox.
On a side note the cases are a bitch to get off... so congrats to the OP
Funny how these things always happen when the warrantys run out.
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.
np, i gave you the tl;dr version, i recommend you look up a proper guide online so you know exactly what size bolts and washers and nuts to buy.presidentsheep wrote:

yeah that's not a bad kit actually. the actual stuff (buying it yourself) costs like $15 cause those little bolts and washers are expensive as hell. and it's a pain in the ass. and you get that convenient opener thing. that's so convenient that when i fix another i will buy that, thanks.NeXuS wrote:
