got any popo lolo intersting?
+1,160|6738|cuntshitlake

So my 8800GT is keeping a high-pitched noise whenever it is under a big load. Mainly when folding but also when a game runs at high fps. Now I have headphones and the card itself squeaking faintly would not annoy me but the noise somehow gets transmitted to my headphones too (or speakers for that matter, but with speakers the noise is not so isolated and thus ignorable) and that's where it's annoying. Especially when I play CSS the noise it very annoying, audible if I lock my fps to anything over 30. It really pisses me off. Now I know it's kind of normal for GPU's to keep noises like this (see squealing capacitors) but I would really like to know if there is any way to stop the noise from transmitting to my line out.

Specs:
Asus P5N-E SLI (650i)
8800GT (not OC'd) w/ Accelero S1 (Passive)
Asus Xonar D1
E6600 @ 3GHz
4GB DDR2
Sennheiser HD555

Thanks in advance

Hmm yeah capacitors tend to do that when they are dying but necessarily. Some just vibrate so intensely you hear noise. See if any capacitor is loose and not soldered properly any more. Is it still under warranty?

Nothing seems to vibrate and I don't have warranty left (would be gone for removing the stock cooler anyways). I'm kinda looking for a way to stop whatever causes the noise, from interfering with my sound card since the noise is definitely coming from my sound card and definitely produced by my graphics card, if you get what I mean.

The coils on Nvidia graphics cards almost always squeal. It's a design flaw in the processor itself that has to do with how it draws current from them. Nothing to do about it. If you get noise from it in your sound output, either stop using the front ports of your case, or if you aren't, get a cheap dedicated sound card.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Dedicated sound card as in a USB one? Since I have an internal dedicated sound card. I also tried switching to back ports earlier, changes nothing.

That's odd. What card is it?

Try placing it in a PCI slot further away from the graphics card(s).

I had this problem when I had tri-fire and my sound card between HD 3870 and HD 3870 X2.

Mine does that too sometimes when it's folding.

GTS 250.

It's so high pitched that you can almost....feel it, and it makes it impossible to stay in the same room as the computer.
My brother can't hear it though..

Xonar D1. It's in the furcthest away PCI slot. I'm actually not sure if the integrated Realtek HD audio had the noise. I'll try another PCI-slots

For me it's

GPU
PCI slot covered by GPU
PCI slot for soundcard.

If that doesn't work, take a piece of aluminium foil and the size of the sound card and cover it in duct tape, aside from a little bit that you tape to the case of your computer. Place it on the sound card so that it's between the graphics card(s) and it.

Since I keep my case open I take it I could tape that thing to my accelero S1 fins? Going to try that if moving the pci slot doesn't work (And I doubt it does)

No, you want it as close to the sound card as possible. Acceleros usually aren't connected to ground either.

When you say that, things tend to break.

Didn't fix it for folding at least, I'll see the gaming part now, it always was way fainter anyways.

Dont know if it works with the coils, but I read you can coat a squealing cap in nail polish to dampen it.
