I tried that.
I was on a £30 a month tariff too. But after about a month of ringing and speaking to loads of different people I finally got some useful answers from a guy who said they only offer decent contract improvements/discounts if you regularly spend OVER your monthly tariff, which I don't. So I got like £2.50 off a month for being a few-years-loyal customer.

I've got the Tour 9630. I love it. The 9700 seems like a major upgrade from it so I'm sure you'll like it too. Especially that sexy optical trackpad... so much nicer than the shoddy trackballs.
Ah I'm on 3 and despite having troubles with the Indian call centres they seem to bend alot of strings to keep you happy. I'm using a N95 8gb at the moment it's been great but opening text messages takes too long. Although I can go on tube8 on it!!! It also has TomTom. Besides I want to look important.
