Hi gang. I want to set up my own server so some friends can join and have some jet and heli fights.

How do I go about doing this?

I’m not at home right now but I thought I’d give it a go later. What I would *think* I needed to do was this:

1.    Create my own server in Multiplayer
2.    Find my IP address
3.    Give this IP to my friends so they can join under “Join IP” in Multiplayer

However, things usually aren’t this easy so if some of you guys perhaps could give me a heads-up on what to do that would be great!

Cheers!

Well...

I haven't tried it yet, but this seems how it should be done. Maybe, just maybe EA/DICE used some logic... Then again, I only set up a LAN server, so perhaps there is more to it?

Cheers,

Well, if you have a spare PC that is somewhat decent, you can run a dedicated server, but other than that I don't think you can make a listen internet server.  If you do set up a server, make sure your firewall and router are configured to make the server public.  Also, you need to know your external IP Address.  The easiest way is to just go here: http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/  Give this address to your friends to connect to.

You may also have to go into your router and foreward the port you connect to, to your computer. You need to know your ip address and preferably make your computer have a static ip address (assign it an ip address in your network range ie 192.168.1.88) Then foreward that port to your ip address and it should work.  I would definately try using the dedicated server even though it might be hard to set up.

Good luck!

Regarding ports BF2 requires about 20 odd ports to work. Most times routers will handle this for you but if you're having problems google for bf2 ports and make sure their ALL open (TCP and UDP).
