Go look at some investment options and find out what % of your money you will get back. With a couple thousand your really not making that much a year, and like I said before if you don't have that much to put up, you probably don't have thousands to let sit, and you don't have the money to gamble on a risky investment that will actually make you enough money for it to be worth it.androoz wrote:

Seal, if you wanted to invest in the stock market, I'm afraid you missed out. I kept telling my girlfriend's mom to take some money and put it into Apple, Microsoft or Google. What's happened? Stock prices have skyrocketed for all three in comparison to their values at the beginning of summer 2009.
What I would recommend you do is sit down with a stock broker or some kind of financial advisor. My girlfriend's mother spoke with hers recently and finally asked him about those companies and he agreed with me: missed your chance. With the stock market still being volatile and she not having the large amounts of money to be able to take a lot of risk (which seems to be your case), he told her to put it into something safe. Interest rates are in the toilet as it is and probably won't be rising very high within the next year or two (according to my finance professor), so it's probably best to put it into a normal bank account with as much interest as you can get.
One thing that you could look into is opening up an IRA for yourself. I have no idea how old you are, but I'm going to be on early 20s, so it's never too early. I wish I had some money like that to start an IRA for myself, but I unfortunately don't. Start planning for your future, chief. Maybe lay a few hundred in an IRA and pay $50 a month into it and then take the other few hundred you have and save that and/or go to an advisor and see what he/she tells you.

Investing a small amount like $1000 is almost useless, just the yearly fees of the broker will eat away your profit ...
