nobody cares about tablets
nobody cared about digital-mp3's either when they all had their hot-shit CD walkmans...
technology trends move in weird directions
apple have the hype-power to shift that influence
we'll see, i dont care either way

Been done before tbh
Not that it has been announced - even at Apple - that this is going to be a tablet. It's going to be "an extra special, exciting new product launch".

Sucks for Steve eh? "his most important creation"Mekstizzle wrote:

We will see. So much speculation.

Really, Apple have already created their greatest thing ever which was the iPhone. All they need to do is keep updating it, making it even more awesome. Stuff like Tablets and shit, they don't take off, not on a large basis like a smartphone would
His words not mine..
In a recent statement, Apple's CEO Steve Jobs has said ' Apple Tablet will be the most important thing I've ever done'.
Might be his last hu-rah.

he's just saying that
I'd say the creation of the iPod was far more significant than the iPhoneMekstizzle wrote:

I don't know about that, I'm pretty interested to see what this is going to be like.Mekstizzle wrote:

You must know something nearly the entire tech industry doesn't know then.

I'd like to see your predictions.

I would certainly agree with you there, though the iPhone was a significant device despite all of its flaws at launch and those it still has today. The iPod essentially made mp3s mainstream as an alternative to CDs as far as transporting your music was concerned. I really don't get why a tablet would be something so fabulous, though. The MID/UMPC market struggled and still continues to do so. It'll be a very highly priced niche product, just like UMPCs are. As far as mobile computing that you need small and to carry, the netbooks are still king there for as long as you don't need heavy processing power.Winston_Churchill wrote:

I'd like to know what kind of processing capabilities this tablet will have, though. The first-gen Macbook Air was a totally botched attempt and the second-gen hasn't seemed to show very much in the way of success... If Apple can pull this tablet off, though, I'll be very surprised. People will be writing their theses on a move like this - taking such a niche product and turning such a profit on it; but only if they pull it off.
The iPod was just a regular mp3 player, for me the iPhone was a much bigger deal, something about smartphones in general that are just incredible. I dunno, different opinions.
Hey thar captain.. those multi touch apps (for android) are starting to show up over here (without rooting). The dolphin web browser for example.

The iPhone made smart phones mainstream, just like the iPod made mp3s as portable music mainstream. As far as which was more significant? I don't know - which one has turned more of a profit for the company?Mekstizzle wrote:

Yea, the Dolphin has had the multitouch enabled for Android 2.0 phones since the Android 2.0 phones launched. I can remember getting the update notification shortly after the Droid dropped in the US.Kmarion wrote:

Bigger deal now that it's working in the US.

I'd say smartphones were already mainstream before the iPhone. There are great ones along with the iPhone (especially with its flaws at the beginning), when the iPod first came out it blew any other mp3 player out of the water for years (and still holds a huge majority of the market).CapnNismo wrote:

I would disagree with you. Shortly before the iPhone launch, smart phones were still very much for enterprise users on the whole. Certainly Palm and RIM both made phones for the masses BEFORE the iPhone, but neither reached that market penetration that Apple managed to do with the iPhone.Winston_Churchill wrote:

Apple. Bastards. I have a mac for studio gear. Its offers the best stability for multi tracking. So thats all good.
I wouldnt have an IPOD near me. Well I found one on the ground outside my office. Gave it a clean up and gave it to the GF. She has no PC.
I have a over 150gb of music on my server and have a creative Zen X-FI. Drag and drop. Fucking simple. Prity anal about my music libary. Cover art etc so it looks good in media portal.
So I am out splitting logs and come back in after an hour and the GF is like "I put music on my IPOD and figured out how to do it all by myself" Im like "did you download ITUNES?????" "Yep" she says proudly. I dont know what the fuck she did but my music collection is now totally fucked and re aranged and renamed.
FUCKING ITUNES PILE OF PISH!

Don't know what you're laughing about. Macs don't get viruses. Not that they can't - but they don't.HaiBai wrote:

There's one that targets Mac OSX, supposedly the world's first. But there were rather large security flaws that caused OSX to fall in seconds at that last big security expo.
