even uzique can see it for what it is

and that iPad nano image hits the nail on the head, and I said that before. This iPad should have, if anything, been released way before the iPhone/touch.

I agree with the article. I was looking forward to it, because although there isn't much demand for such a thing I thought Apple would somehow make a decent job out of it, but they just haven't.

Steve Jobs frantic was a trending topic becuase of this:
http://www.theonion.com/content/news_br … s_stays_up
CUPERTINO, CA—Claiming that he completely forgot about the much-hyped electronic device until the last minute, a frantic Steve Jobs reportedly stayed up all night Tuesday in a desperate effort to design Apple's new tablet computer. "Come on, Steve, just think—think, dammit—you're running out of time," the exhausted CEO said as he glued nine separate iPhones to the back of a plastic cafeteria tray. "Okay, yeah, this will work. This will definitely work. Just need to write 'tablet' on this little strip of masking tape here and I'm golden. Oh, come on, you piece of shit! Just stick already!" Middle-of-the-night sources reported that Jobs then began work on double-spacing his Keynote presentation and increasing the font size to make it appear longer

Apple really did drop the ball on this tablet. If they had at least managed to work multitasking into it, that alone would have been a major improvement. But then the lack of even a tiny, front-facing VGA camera is also quite sad. There was so much that Apple could have done with this product to make it a kick ass UMPC. The falling in stock prices alone tells what the market thinks - the rumors of an awesome device caused the stock price to more than double since the end of summer and the device didn't even come close to living up to the hype. Steve's losing it in his old age.

I saw in one of my feeds today that ASUS is planning an EEE-branded tablet PC now. They'll certainly be able to capitalize on Apple's failure here and make a much better device. Just look how far they've taken the EEE PC since the original 70x series in such a short span of time.

Especially if ASUS keeps the price down. (I-Pad killer)

Oh it will definitely be as cheap as the Apple or cheaper. If it's the same price as the Apple, you can guarantee the feature list will be much better. Whether or not there will be a built in 3G? I wouldn't count ASUS out of that - they've done it with their netbooks a few times already.

EDIT:
http://techreport.com/discussions.x/18377

there's the article. No Windows, which means prices will definitely be lower because there won't be any Windows license attached to it. Would be nice to get something like Jolicloud onto that - dual-boot for Android and Jolicloud. win-win right there if you ask me

I think so also. But all those extra components will add up.

As far as it being the same exact thing as an iPhone..

That's assuming it's not unlocked though, if you unlock the iPhone after you buy it none of that applies, and you don't even need a contract over here at least.

Your only GSM options here are AT&T or T-Mobile. AT&T is horrifyingly expensive and their service is terrible but they have more coverage than T-Mobile. And the iPad and iPhone don't have support for T-Mobile's 3G band.

It's why I dont have a Nexus one now. It's unlocked but Verizon = cdma.

although
"The currently available Nexus One is a GSM device and is not compatible with CDMA networks such as Verizon and Sprint. We are working hard to provide Nexus One phones optimized for the Verizon network - please stay tuned."

Ironically bigger infrastructure means less options in this case.

Apple is a phenomenal company, but it has to do business in the same fragile economy and stock market as everyone else. No matter how brilliant Steve Jobs, Apple’s chief executive, is, the stock is vulnerable to a second dip into recession; $499 for the basic iPad will attract a lot of buyers, but fewer if the economy tanks anew.

The share price could also fall victim to perhaps the biggest threat that any asset faces: excessive expectations.

For the last decade Jobs has managed to do everything right, from the various iterations of the Mac to Pixar to iTunes and the iPod and the iEverything else. He has a knack, maybe better than anyone else does, for identifying a need in the marketplace, often one that consumers never realized they had, and designing a product or service to fill it.

But nobody’s perfect. Jobs has made mistakes, although not lately. It doesn’t look as though the iPad is one, but it’s way too early to tell for sure.

It really depends on what part of the country you are in. Service wise at least.
