Hey, I did a search (by 'sniper') and the first 4 of 90 pages had bugger all. Most guides on sniper seem to neglect the most important aspect of sniping, and that's your aim.

I'm having a lot of trouble with aiming of the sniper rifle. I have been trying it on with the M95 and not getting as many kills as I should.

So, can you tell me some for instances of where I aim in relation to distance.

First example is from the North arm of Wake island to the arty. I aim dead on and sometimes get a kill, other times I'm dead on and I get nothing. The M95 in particular does not tell me when I've hit like other weapons do.

Then there's times where I'm a bit back on the South arm of Wake and I aim a few pixels up from their head and it hits.

Can't remember which map but I aimed a full half body length up and nailed some poor dude.

Also, I can hit moving targets sometimes, but as with stationary targets, I can't remember what worked, as when I get a kill I'm usually so excited I don't learn from it. So again, give some examples of the map, the distance, the speed and direction of the target and then the lead.

If you could please give me some more examples and maybe even discuss both the M24 and the M95. I am sure that many a nub will search for 'sniper aim' and find this thread useful. My final sniper unlock will likely be my last unlock unless I can figure out how to use it properly.

Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert sniper. I just aim at the head everytime. I don't bother trying to hit moving targets because I know I'll just miss (unless they're running towards or away from me). I don't think there's more than a pixel or two drop in the bullets, if that. They seem to shoot pretty straight for me.

Don't learn with the M95. It won't reward your aiming skills. On Wake, at the beginning of the round, spawn at the little island with the artillery. Some enemies always come running down on the left arm of the island to harass people trying to get there in boats. These are at a good range to practice long-range sniping.

When they're at the dip in the road between the AA and the sandbag bunker, aim 3/4th's to a full body length above them, and lead them about a body's width if they're running. Should hit their torso, or if you're lucky, it will hit them in the head . Hold down the left mouse button after shooting to see where you aimed longer. Camping FAV's make good still targets on both legs of the island. Hope that helps.

For moving enemies at medium/close range, picture they're wearing a baseball cap and aim for the bill.

My brother, who plays as sniper(bless his heart when he DOES get to play), taught me all of this.

That only applies to mid-range,on long range you have to aim significantly higher.
If I find somebody to do a bulletdrop chart with me we can be sure about aiming.

i knoiw youmight not want this but it is the best sniper rifle IMO the l96a1 i do not have it but when i ever see people with it and they die OMG it is soo much fun.  i was playing wak ethe other day and i was spawning the arty island w/ me and my friend.  he died i put down the type 88 pecie of shit IMO and picked up the l96 and my kills went up like from 20 w/ 10 min left they went to about 40 doubled.  and like the person said before spwn on the island.  and shoot to the tips i pickeed of a couple of gunners snipers PKM whores and a whole crap load of people.  i good place to hide is by the arty when i am playing sniper i can never seem to lob that bullet of the arm.  and for moving shots don't take emm unless you gota. the same round on wake i was spawning the airfield with this m95 i picked up fun this one guy was soo cluless it wasnt even funny.  went into the plane boom head shoot did it a gain boom hewad shott this time he got pretty pissed he came all over came w/ in about 5 meters of my and did not see me so boom head shoot and then the reound ended lol i went complatly off target

I use the M95 a lot, i love it, I'm certainly no expert, but this is what I've found works for me,

I've found that for headshots at short to medium range get them in the dead centre, no problem.....when you go long range, i tend to aim slightly high, but only just so their head is at the bottom of the horizontal hair, obviously this can depend on the distance, I also like to hold the target for a moment or two preferably nice and still, the M95 has a bit of a kick and at distance that kick can make a huge difference.

With moving targets, try to get them in the bottom corners of the sight, just under where the crosshairs meet (this works best when sniping from a height, i guess it counters bullet drop ??) i find it works well to lead the target, let them run and follow them with the sight, when you have worked out your aim nail them.

That's about all i do, that i can say i do consciously(sp?)

Also, a good place to get some sniping in on karkand with a reasonable range and good view over to CP's, just between the square and the suburb, there is building with a ladder round the back of it, I can't remember exactly where (too much sf), but it give a great view onto the Suburb allowing you pick off the poor fools that stand up right next to the flag, and then you have a nice height over the square.

I pretty much am an expert. As someone above said, the M95 won't reward your aim. It has crap for accuracy. The M24 and L96 are the best sniper rifles. The L96 is the best overall because it takes slightly less time to reload than the M24, but otherwise they're equal.

At very long range you will have to aim above their heads, but just slightly. As for moving targets- that's very advanced and you'll only pick it up with lots of time and practice. Since youre somewhat new at it, I'd recommend aiming for the tip top of enemy heads (as in the forehead and up)- that will work at any distance up to long/very long. Just practice and be patient.

The M95 has a bullet drop scope - for that shot on wake, aim about where 1.5 would be.

Have a look at the wiki.

I couldn't hit shit with the normal guns and m95.

Now, with the L96, though...

Ya, i love the l96 too. Deff the best sniper. Every time its just like boom head shot. especially those people who think they are brilliant when they pull up in a hummer and jump to the gunner. I shot them in the head before they can get a shot off, and thats kind of challenging, because they have to be facing you to hit them between the two metal plates.

Well, whats always been a problem with me is : when im really far away from somone, i cant get a headshot on them because the lines in the scope are to thick.  i cant line up a good shot.  that new european sniper rifle has such good accuracy.  too bad i have to wait until i am sgt. major before i can unlock it.

The Barret is a bit of a mixed bag; if you're playing as USMC then I would also strongly recommend the M24 too, unless you like to try your hand at anti-materiel sniping or shooting through chopper glass.

Here's one, I've been practicing recently a lot on Sharqi:
Construction Site to roof of TV Station
Aim just above the head or have the head just touch the bottom of the reticle. That's ~130m isn't it?

I think the explanations above are probably right about the M95, it's much harder to take quick shots accurately with it than with the M24 because of recoil maybe and maybe there's a settling time, not sure about that but it feels that way.

Although you can do this standing no probs go prone, just to make yourself a smaller vertical target for the snipers who are shooting back at you And move back from the window/wall if you're doing this by the way, it's near the limit of visibility in their direction (depends on graphics cards a bit) but for you they'll still be clearly visible silhouetted against the sky.

The L96 is definitely worth it. Definitely pick up dropped sniper kits any chance you get to see if they were shooting it and give it a whirl.

Thats the fault the most ppl make. The M95 is a very good weapon. you just got to aim a little above the head after 100 m. There is bulletdrop you know. In the beginning you can use the 3d map to check the distances on the flag. After many hours playing with the sniper kit you will learn how many m. your target is and you dont have even think about it.
when a target is moving from the left to the right on your screen you just have to aim at the same hight you do when they are standing still and a cm. of 1 to 2 away from the target. after a while you will now where to aim. it's just practice dude just practice.
