Hey guys, thinking about making a cheap server pc, P4, couple of gigs of ram, that sort of thing. Was wondering if there's anywhere I can pick up P4s and the mobo they need for cheap? Looking at 2-4tb of storage as well.

Once I've got it all together I'm planning on putting it out in the hall underneath the desk with the homeplug router on it, and connecting all 3 pcs, and 3 laptops to it, through the router + Wireless.

Any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. Would you consider buying yourself a new PC and using your old one as a server?

I'm waiting on hearing back about a permanent position that I've applied for, if I get that job, I'll buy a new pc, and use this one as a server. Tbh though, it's too good for a server. It's my gaming rig.

Erm, FX62 3.2Ghz, 3GB Ram, 4770. Not sure what that's worth tbh.

Erm, FX62 3.2Ghz, 3GB Ram, 4770. Not sure what that's worth tbh.

The CPU and RAM are good for a server, CPU is worth around 40€ or less. Have you considered getting a NAS if the server is purely for storage?
