simple question for you all:

im completely wiping my main drive to install windows 7. just bought a 1 terabyte external e-Sata drive for all my music/films/games, so i can finally wipe my internal main-HDD without fear of losing 100,000 songs blah-blah-blah. in short: my current internal is in 3 partitions that i made years ago for reasons i cant even remember, and i don't want or need them there anymore. how do i restore the current C/ drive so it's just one big partition? im tired of having 3 different sub-drives for one hard-disk.

any program or utility that i can use to do this? karma for the best recommendation. don't care if it involves formatting and wiping my data-- i have the eSata drive as the backup now. just want to restore this internal western digital drive to factory defaults for windows 7 installation. keeping it as clean as possible from now on. like a SSD only... 3 years old. you know. bling bling. kerching.

Pretty sure you can do it when you restart with the Windows 7 CD in.  Thats what I did.

Then how do you plan on installing Windows 7 with a blank HDD? If you want to repartition the disk then you have to delete the current partitions, so the HDD is unpartitioned, and then format a new single partition.

In doing that you will no longer be able to to boot to an OS in order to install another OS.

You need a disc to boot from.

Can't you merge them in the windows disk management? (right click computer - manage - disk management) I know you can split/resize them there, not sure about merging though.

and i don't know what you mean about not having a disc, surely you're going to burn the image onto a disc?

yeah, obviously... but pirated copies of windows 7 dont come with all the extra microsoft utilities. just an installer and a pirate-coded launcher.
