Since I grew up in Canada, i was always told, if i get lost in the wilderness to always find out where north is, and that would b my savior.

My question is, on maps, and in life, do aussies get taught to find south to figure out where they are? and is there a specific star to look for? (Like the norht star for us N.A.?)
