fan cooling options ?

My 8800GT died recently and i think it was partially due to heat issues so I need to cool off my system asap.

This is my system case

I am thinking I should take the optical drive panels out from the spaces i am not using (3 optical drive spaces total) and install some kind of fan system there.

I could just leave
those panels open and install some kind of filter so it can at least have one way air flow.

Please tell me what you guys think of either idea or let me know what you can think of.

It could also have been dust related, if you get dust in your case it can heat things up so open your case up and if you see any dust try to clean it out. Especially if your current fan is dusty.

Buy a fridge, put your PC in it..

srsly,, 1 fan infront sucking in and one in the back blowing out should suffice...

I got 2 front, 1 back and 2 top, with the front ones beeing "suckers" since there are built in air-filters in the front of my centurion 590

Considering you say it is clean, it must have been a malfunction,, because 2 fans can cool allmost any system, as long as they do not counter eachother...

That case has (if I'm not mistaken) a 120mm exhaust fan, 80mm exhaust/intake (can't be sure) on the side, and I'm presuming another 120mm intake on the front. That's MORE than enough cooling. I've got a 120mm intake, and an 80mm exhaust. They're both unplugged, Lol.

Once you get your new GPU, get a thermometer and check the temperature inside the case, and also monitor your CPU/GPU temperature readings. Under 80 degrees C (176F) for GPU is very safe, but anything over that you've got problems, whereas with CPUs, try not to exeed 70 degrees C (158F)

wtf... My Radeon 4870Toxic runs 40celcius idle

I'm pretty sure the intel c2d's auto-shutdown when reaching near-80 celcius...
They should never go above 60celcius... My E8500 runs <40celcius idle...

If I put the fan at 100%, load temps don't exceed 55 degrees.. although my ears do bleed.

No, I have the same case and the only fans that it came with it were the two pictured in the OP (one on the window and one at the rear below the PSU). Although I did purchase it about 4 years ago, but on Newegg it says it comes with two 120mm fans.
