I can't find good benchmarks of the 4850x2 1GB version nor any comparisons between the two.

So price/noise/power consumption is out of the question which is the better card?

Did some searching and it looks like the 4850x2 is a bit better. Dunno though.

Not really sure on those cards.. but a 5770 will only cost about $20 more now a days.

Why are you considering buying such outdated hardware?
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Because I don't feel like buying brand new hardware that is eventually going to get outdated in a few months (which I prefer waiting a long time for them to drop in price) not to mention I can get either of these cards for 125-140$ Besides I only want these cards for a specific purpose such as running Bad Company 2, CoD 4/WaW on high. Not faggy ass folding.

A 5770 is better than a 9800GX2 in every aspect, and should lie in about that price range.

one PCIe slot maybe? or not enough room to run 2 PCIe cards?

does his PSU have enough juice and/or connectors to run these beasts?

This.

The only dual card not trumped by a superior single card today is the 5970 AFAIK.

There are dozens of cards that beat the 9800GX2 and are single GPU and use one slot.

I think I am just going to get the 4850x2 as it's cheaper and faster than the 5770.

Well they can do DX 11. That's much of a difference to me tbh.

I would liek to hear where you have benefitted from DX11 yet, because I haven't.

OP:

But hell the 4850X2 is probably near the loudest card on the planet, and obsolete tech and even multi-GPU. There is absolutely no reason to get it.

I want to hear your reasoning with obsession to these two cards. Because right now what you are talking makes no sense at all.

Because my friend is selling both for $120 and I have listened to the 4850X2 it is not as loud as most say it is. I guess that's my "obsession" sir.
