I currently have an NEC 21"(?) 1280x1024. Have had it since '05, I think it's time for an upgrade.
There are two routes I can take here.
1) The cheaper, tried-and-true way. A basic monitor with HD, DVI, and VGA inputs, nothing fancy. Which leads me to this. I'm pretty sure this is a decent selection, and I'm confident in this choice, but if any of you have some better suggestions that are similar in features or price range, feel free to post them.
2) The more expensive way. A fancy monitor with multiple HD inputs and component video inputs, among other things. Which leads me to this. The problem with this is that, after reading reviews, it seems to have a lot of minor annoyances and imperfections; if I'm going to be sinking more money for a better monitor, I would prefer to not have to deal with things like that. Examples are: minimal ability to rotate/tilt/swivel monitor, have to buy a proprietary Samsung stand if I wanted something extra, other HDMI port is on the side of the monitor, which means cables sticking out the side.
So I'm hoping that you guys know some other, better monitors as alternatives to this second option, that have similar features.
My budget is mid-$300, though if there's something kickass enough, I could go up to $400. Size isn't the most important issue for me, as it'll be on my desk and I'll only be a few feet away. TV tuner isn't necessary, but I definitely want more than one HDMI input (PS3 and PC, or eventually PS3 and cable box), and the component input is nice as well (PS2). It would also be nice if the monitor had a headphone jack or line out so that I can pipe the sound back to the computer (as opposed to having to mess with device outputs and extra cables; e.g., the PS3 is on the HD monitor on my parents computer, but I have to hook up the other PS3 proprietary cable and change the sound output and use an adapter to make the red and white audio cables go to a line in jack on the PC so that the sound can come out the computer speakers... yeah, annoying and more wire clutter).
As always, thank you in advance for the help. I<3 bf2s tech team.
