Its not that hard really, just join a club, buy a safe and then its paperwork.
There are very few ranges in the UK where you can shoot a 0.50, and theres no real point to it either.
they're only really used for extreme long range shooting

and for bragging rights
Wouldn't a smaller calibre higher velocity bullet be more accurate at long range?
At long range its retained velocity which is important, big heavy bullets work better.

That's historic. Also, it's beautiful craftsmanship, the trigger is completely hidden in the engravings.

Wouldn't own a HK G-3 clone, personally.

The barrel is press-fit into the reciever, so you can't have a regular gunsmith change a worn barrel.
(unless your 'smith has a 5 ton hydraulic press on hand...)

The roller lock action causes it to 'thump' a bunch more than any .308 has a right to (not painful, just annoying to shoot from odd positions)

The gas assisted ejection system does mean and violent things to the empty brass on the way out, namely pushes groves into the harder brass at the base of the case, making them non-reloadable.

The roller lock system is remarkably picky about what ammo you use.  If it's different than the standard NATO issue ammo, you need to change the bolt head out for a +/- part to handle the different loads.

Get an M-14 or AR-10 clone instead.

why not just get the legit gun instead of a clone?

Authentic G-3 would be $10,000 to $15,000, and imported around 1980, and hence worn the hell out with some bozo doing full auto mag dumps in it to show off.

Semi auto clone would be $1000 to $1500, and new-in-box.
AND, you could buy all (except reciever) new authentic HK parts for it, if you wanted to spend the cash on it.

Also - for anything other than pistols, HK is horribly overpriced for what you get anymore.

New .40 G24C. One of the rarer and more expensive Glock models. Comes with every thing. 3.5lbs connecter, extended mag release, extended slide lock, Glock adjustable sights

I leave on Wednesday, so I'm gonna blast through all my ammo tomorrow.
