I know there are plenty of these already, but everyone has their own budget and preferences, so please halp
Sorry about the wall of text
So, I'm retiring my old Athlon 2Ghz and with it the old 939 socket motherboard and I'm looking for a combo to replace it.
Budget is 150 € MAX (I'm a poor (legal) immigrant working illegally for scraps)
--- CPU ---
First it was a choice between Dual Cores:
Intel Dual Core E6600 2x 3.0GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … re%20E6600
I can get it for about 75€ so its in the budget.
Now for roughly the same price I can also get a Dual Core Phenom 2x 3.0 GHz.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 20X2%20545
So it was a decision between Phenom 2x 3.0GHz and E6600 2x 3.0GHz.
If that was the final choice I would probably go for the Intel since reviews and famous sites all favor Intel slightly, but it gets more interesting. For the same price (~75 €) I can get this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … -_-Product
Its a Athlon II Quad Core, 4x 2.6 GHz
Intel may be better, and AthlonII doesn't have L3 cash but its still Quad-Core and according to tomshardware.com and Overclockers it can be upped to ~3.0 GHz with stock cooler if I decide to OC it.
-- To sum it up ---
I'm confused about roughly the same price since 75 - 80€ can get me :
1. Intel Pentium E6600 3.06GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Dual-Core
2. AMD Phenom II X2 545 Callisto 3.0GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Dual-Core
3. AMD Athlon II X4 620 Propus 2.6GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache Quad-Core
What say you? Oh and other suggestions are fine, just keep it cheap.
-- MOBOs ---
I havent settled on one if I pick E6600 or some other Intel (could use a recommendation), but for both AMDs I think this one is good:
GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … A770%20UD3
As far as I know its compatible with both of my choices. It can take AM3 processors and DDR2 RAM (very important since I have 4 GB of DDR2) and It has 1xPATA(IDE) - also important since my HD and DVD are both PATA.
Correct me if I'm wrong and feel free to recommend something else entirely.
ps.
I have a ATI Radeon x1950 Pro and 600W PSU
Thanks, will check in after a shave
