Both are quite late in market, yet cause HUGE hype.

Lenovo and others have been rocking tablet PCs for ages now.

Yeah, who would buy these then? Seems like they are jsut selling by their brands. Some ppl buy anything Apple puts into market.

Pass on both.

I already have a laptop & PCs.  I already have a cell phone and satphone.

What I could use is a proper e-ink PDF & blueprint reader, like these.

Letter sized display, battery life measured in weeks or thousands of page turns, and expandable memory (SD cards, etc).
That's all I need.
No USB sex-drive attachment, no app store, no gee-wiz hype features, no crossover into features my pre-existing tools already have.

Rather than making some twatty gadget for morons it'd be nice if they produced something with a focus on some professional applications, do something in collaboration with Wacom and make a more advanced version of something like the Cintiq range or something like that, touch screen is pretty pointless if all you're going to do is poke buttons and resize windows. I'd happily drop a couple of grand on a standalone graphics tablet, as I'd imagine would many graphics professionals (especially considering Apples reputation for being the one to choose for media work, the fact the iPad seems to do fuck all for them seems very strange to me).

Apple-Google-Amazon, it has begun..

Listen to the opening of this show..
http://www.twit.tv/ttg638

"With Eric Schmidt resigning from the Apple Board, Apple refusing to carry Google Voice, then Google coming out with a host of Android phones including the Nexus One(Leo’s favorite phone now), Steve Jobs saying Google’s “do no evil” theme as a “load of malarky,” and now the iPad is changing the face of eBook publishing, a “shooting war” is erupting between Apple, Google, and Amazon.

But that’s not all, Jobs has started a war with Adobe over Flash and HTML5. Jobs calls Adobe “lazy,” for not refining Flash, which he claims is buggy and “more often than not” crashes Macs more than any other cause. Leo says THAT’s a load of malarky! Having said that, Flash is a resource hog.

Google released the Nexus One, with Android, omitting multi-touch with the assurance to Apple they wouldn’t add it. Then, a few weeks later, included multi-touch anyway in a recent update! So Apple responds by forcing a developer to drop his boast of being an “Android finalist,” from his application submission or risk having his application disapproved.

Man, it’s getting nasty. And where is Microsoft in all this? On the sidelines looking on like the rest of us."

They're three aspects of modern media.  It'll be telling which one's concept & methodology wins the public's favor.

Microsoft .. well, that's just the difference in leadership between Gates and Ballmer.
Without Gates, do not expect them to play catch-up when they miss the next Big Thing (ala browser wars, internet, GUI, et al)

They'll keep making money, and their stocks will be fine - just, don't mistake the current MS for the old MS.

I think MS is just going to sit back and keep being a software company like they always have. There's nothing wrong with the Windows market as it is. Imagine if MS dropped WinMo and bought into Android and backed Android and Google with that kind of partnership (prolly NEVER happen, though)...

Quietly getting on with having most of the business and gaming markets.....

I doubt they really care about all these crazy shenanigans all the rest of them are up to. Steve Jobs wants to watch out about pissing off Adobe too much as well - if they cripple future releases of Photoshop for Mac then Apple will have some nasty problems....
