'aight, I can't remember the exact quote, nor the person behind it, but it goes something like this: "Without critique, there will be no advances"

So, what's the quote and who said it?

Using it for an essay..

If one doesn't critisise the society, there won't be any advancements in society is kind of what I'm trying to say. I'm sure there's a famous quote like that, but I can't remember

No I meant context of the quote so I can actually find it.

Was it by a male, female, any idea about the date, the social setting, anything?!

I don't know the context, but I guess the French Revolution / Age of Enlightment would be about right?

I'd go with Emerson... Coz I remembered something like that in my American Literature class. It was passed enlightenment for sure. If it is around revolution try Rousseau and Voltaire.
