Hey BF2s, guess what!

I need speakers, specifically speakers that I can hide under leather jackets or motorcycle helmets. I'm not talking about headphones, I need people to be able to hear them from somewhat long distances.

Also, they have to use a 3.5mm jack, and must be be battery powered, for obvious reasons.

Do such things exist?

They just run directly from the signal that you get out of the jack. Most MP3 players and sound cards have a 0.05W-ish amplifier built-in. That's also how headphones work.

The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

AUX power =/= didn't even need power.

Were they running on static electricity or something, maybe your body heat?

Not sure if you are trollin reaps, but I have also owned some small speakers in the past that were powered via the 3.5mm jack.

There's been this mania for "sound backpacks"--basically plunk a battery in a backpack, with a small amp on top and speakers attached on the sides, back and top. The bass, combined with the weight of the thing, was usually enough to give everyone backaches within half an hour.

That being said, there are several models of battery-powered little speakers out there. But the smaller they are, the less powerful they are. If you want to hide them in your jacket or helmet, you'd need to buy some super-small ones, which probably wouldn't be heard over 10m, and definitely not if you're riding.

Another solution would be to get some Centrios flat-panel speakers. I bought a 5.1 set back in 2005 for 80 bucks, just because they were about a centimetre thick (and quite good for that size/quality). However, in order to run them, you'd need an amp and battery.

So, bottom line is that you can't do anything loud inside your jacket. You'll need an external power supply, but it'll be big and heavy.

This is more of what I'm looking for. I don't need them to go over a motorcycle, and I don't need them to deafen me. I just need people in a medium sized room to be able to hear decently.

I had a friend (well, he was a douche) who put an aftermarket car speaker in the trunk of his scooter... it ran off the scooters stock battery...

Can't something like that be done? A normal 6" speaker would be good enough sound wise for what you say you need...

In that case, you will need something battery powered... because I doubt speakers that run off a jack plug have enough power for people to hear them more than 1m away from you...
